So my original thought for bridesmaids gifts was to get everyone a different piece of jewelry... not to wear the day of my wedding, but just as a nice, everyday piece that would hopefully reflect everyone's individual taste.  Well, this has turned out to be harder than I thought.  I'm finding it SO difficult to buy for other people... all I want to do is pick things I would like, which isn't necessarily their taste!  I tried ordering Swarovski jewelry from a Gilt Group Sale (was able to snag $100+ necklaces for $60 each).  But when they came in the mail, I hated them.  That being said, I am not happy with these gifts.

So now after the annoyance of possibly having to return everything and ship it all back, I'm thinking of doing the following, but not sure if it's a cute idea or not.  I figure everyone can use makeup so... my thought is to do little baskets or gift boxes with:

    • Christian Dior Lip Gloss ($30 full price, could get for $15 each)
    • Christian Dior "Dior Show" Mascara ($20 full price, getting them for $10 each)
    • Matchbook Style Nail Files (super cute little matchbooks that are individual nail files...can be "love theme" and fits in your puse - $1 each)
    • Paris-themed Stationary Set that comes in a cute box - $6 each
    • Bridesmaids Movie - comes out late September - $20 each?

What does everyone think?  Is this something you would want?  I feel like whenever I've been a Bridesmaid, I have received cheap jewelry or things I never used.  And I would prefer to give something useful!

    Help!

If everyone likes makeup I think that's a cute idea!

I ran into the same problem with my 6 girls.  No one has the same jewelry taste whatsoever.  I didn't want to force them to wear some sparkly earrings that will just get put in a box and never worn again.  So, I treated the gifts like it was Christmas or a Birthday.  I tried to get something personalized and useful for each one. Here's what I did.

Girl 1: LL Bean monogrammed duffle - cause she doens't have one

Girl 2: LL Bean monogrammed travel accessory bag - cause she travels a lot

Girl 3: Monogrammed bamboo cutting board and utensils - cause she cooks a lot

Girl 4: Spa gift certificate and monogrammed robe - she loves massages!

Girl 5: Monogrammed slippers - she's preggo and will need them :)

Girl 6: Engraved "To My Friend, with Love" on bracelet - she's a jewelry freak

I then got everyone a pashmina to wear that day, plus some lip gloss and snacks for the day of.  I'll pack all the gifts in either a tote bag I find, or I'll just wrap like it's Christmas. I LOVE GIFT GIVING! :)

@jo.lee: LOL, me too!  I LOVE Dior lipgloss, and its the type of indulgence I don't usually buy for myself.  And Bridesmaids is just awesome.

    So basically, GREAT gift!

IMO, I would like a really nice gift instead of a bunch of little things that I could buy myself but I do love the spa gift cert idea!
