I need your help! We bought my bridesmaids dresses (x2) a few weeks ago, but now im having second thoughts.
They are a nice thin cotton (perfect for a summers day) and we will have them shortened to just above the knee.
I didnt want anything too ‘bridesmaid-y’ and I like that the girls could wear these dresses elsewhere. When looking though wedding inspiration pics, I likes when the maids were in more casual dresses, and we also want to create a relaxed atmosphere at the wedding.
Thing is now im scared they dont look bridesmaid-y enough and they will look too casual! I dont want to replace but rather accessorize it up! We have already discussed replacing the belt thing with some sort of sash, but what else can we do to dress itup?!
Any ideas/pics would be greatly appreciated! Our colors are green and white, with a base of navy, and maybe a hint of yellow here and there.

I love those dresses! (And I like the bouquet stand-ins, haha!)
What kind of material are they made out of? (I can’t tell if it’s jersey or woven fabric.)
I agree with zippylef that you just need to accessorize the dress as is to make it ‘bridesmaid-y’. ie. You could change the sash if you wanted, but I don’t think it’s necessary. It looks like the sash gets bunched up when it’s worn anyways, so maybe it’s better in matching fabric so that it doesn’t look sloppy if it’s not laying perfectly flat?
A feather headpiece in your colours would be bridesmaid-y but still casual. For example, this wedding has yellow and white as the colours, and a casual vibe: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2010/02/25/diy-central-coast-wedding/ Not sure if you like feather headpieces for bmaids, but I love them!

No different sash needed IMO. This is your perfect opportunity to find jewelry for their gifts! Find something you like, and then do your bouquets in your other colors-green, white, and yellow! Done! 🙂 Fabulous!

No sash – – Some killer jewelry like an awesome bracelet w/ earings and then fantastic silver/gold/nude heels. Btw those dresses are stinkin’ adorable!

I agree with the other girls, I wouldn’t add a brightly colored sash, I think it might distract from how pretty and simple the dress is. I think all you need are some great shoes & jewelry, maybe something in the hair and you’ll be all set!

I think the bridesmaid dress you choose are very pretty. A metallic heel, a short pearl necklace and a cute colored clutch would be good accessories. They will look beaautiful!

Thanks for the ideas Ladies!
Bug in a rug, its funny you posted that wedding, I’ve actually saved the picture of the centerpieces as inspiration for my own!
And I really like the idea of feathers in the bridesmaids hair! I actually have my eye on something feathery for my hair so it could go really well!
Its interesting that you all agree that i shouldn’t change the sash! The only thing that puts me off is that its a very thin cotton fabric, almost linen like, and the ones we tried on in the the store were really creased, and looked really messy, im worried that even if I ironed and starched them they would still get super creased. Having said that, I hadn’t thought about it looking sloppy if not sitting right- VERY good point, and I think satin would do that.
What style jewelry do you think I should go for? Something dressy (pearls/crystal/shiny!) or more casual?
I love the idea of nude shoes- I think they are so hot! Metallic would also work well I think.
Keep the ideas coming!!

Looks like you have over a year till your wedding. If you come across something you love better than order those dresses and just use the current dresses for the rehearsal or shower. They are really cute dresses.

This season florals are really in fashion for accessories – what about a big hair flower in your wedding colour? Or shoes with crystals or big flowers on them?
Great choice of dress for a laid back wedding x

Ooooh I love that dress! Where is it from??
Depending on how formal your wedding is, I think they would look totally cool with big yellow bead necklaces or bracelets, and yellow clutches or something, then nude shoes.
I always think that a group of women at a wedding who are dressed an accessorised in the same way look like bridesmaids, I don’t think it’s the bridesmaidyness of the dresses per se.. 😀
or maybe yellow shoes?
I love navy and yellow together!!

Hey So said ellie, thanks for the advice! those Yellow shoes are so cute! Not sure my ladies would appreciate flats though! (as much as I would- im 5foot nothing!)
The dress is from a store called Monsoon in the UK, they have lots of nice stuff!
