I’m struggling a bit with decisions on bridesmaids shoes and would love some advice! So my wedding is outdoors in the grass and we will be taking pictures in the dirt (a winery!). I will be wearing flats. I am 5’5” and I have 2 bridesmaids around 5’2” and 3 around 5’6”-5’7”. I am torn about what to put my bridesmaids in, flats or heels. They will be wearing knee length chiffon dresses in coral. While fashion generally seems to prefer heels than flats with knee length dresses, I’m concerned about the grass and dirt for wedding and pics and aesthetics of having the bridesmaids now my height and ~4 inches taller if they were all in heels.
I don’t have everyone’s opinion on this, but in general the girls seem to prefer heels for how they themselves look, but recognize the issue for pictures for how I look. They’re open to wearing what I want, but I of course don’t want to put everyone in things that make them unhappy! I also feel like flats will be cheaper and given that no matter what we get someone won’t like them, I would like to keep costs on the low side and am even opening to buying everyone’s shoes if they are inexpensive (and especially if I demand flats). Thoughts on what bridesmaids should wear?

I would personally prefer flats. I hate wearing heels in grass.
However, if they prefer heels than I would let them wear those. They could get those “Solemate” things to put on the heel so they don’t sink.

@mrsnumbers: I’m deciding the colour, but I think I’ll let them decide what style (flats, heels, wedges, etc). That way they’re comfy and can purchase something they can afford, or even use shoes they already have. Everyone wins!

I’m doing my wedding outdoors as well & am thinking wedges are the way forward – for the BMs and for myself!

@mrsnumbers: I told my girls to get whatever they wanted in a patent leather nude as long as they weren’t sky high stilettos. All but one of them wore heels (my little sister chose a flat sandal). Also, I am super short and all of my friends are tall, so even though I was in heels too (3.5 inches, so not super high) I am still the shortest person in my photos (and still even shorter than my sister in flats…). It really didn’t matter at all….the photos still look fun, the aesthetics don’t look weird, and I’m still the focus. 😉

That’s exactly what I’m doing too. I want my girls to be comfortable. Some prefer sky high heels, others are more comfortable in flats. My wedding is also in grass though so I’m highly recommending to them they go with either flats or wedges if they want some height.

Everyone already knows that the bridesmaids in question are taller than the bride. It never seems to be an issue in the friendship till the wedding.
If they prefer heels, they can wear wedges or get Solemates.

I’d let them wear whatever they want. They know what the situation is with the dirt. Some may choose to wear heels when on hard surfaces and switch to flats for the photos and later into the dancing.

Let them wear what they want.
Some of the girls are already taller than you. Presumably, you already knew this and wanted them to be bridesmaids anyway. Who cares if they are taller than you in pictures?

Pick a colour and let them pick what they prefer.
I plan on telling my girls ‘black, closed toe anything’ and I’m definitely planning on knee length dresses.
Not sure what your other colours are, but a gold sandal would look lovely with coral, in a heel, wedge or flat.
