i think that sounds nice! you could incorporate the candles into your ceremony somehow. As long as the container was high enough to prevent the candles from blowing out, i think it's a wonderful idea.
Thanks! Any ideas for containers...I'm not sure where to start looking! I could do more of a votive style candle than a taper to keep it from blowing out.
I LOVE this idea! Were having a formal evening wedding too and champagne is one of our colors! I want TONS of candles against the skyline and still can't get past all those flowers being beautiful for me for one night and then they all get tossed.
Save-On-Crafts.com is my end all to be all wedding resource site. I'm getting most of my diy stuff there. I am trying to find a good velllum source tho bc I'm wrapping some of my glass votives with a patterned vellum.
Thanks SO much for that idea and I say it's going to be gorgeous!
I think that's an awesome idea. You could go with a lantern style thing. Or one of those olden day candle holders with the finger loop would be cool.
Do you have a picture? I am having an evening wedding as well and would LOVE to use candles instead of flowers!
I really don't want to waste money on flowers and am already planning a candle themed evening wedding... Does anyone have pix of how this could be done or a sight with places/things to buy from?
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Are you still doing this? Are you getting dripless candles or somthing?
i had been wondering the same thing only because i thought i couldn't afford flower bouquets. however i will now be getting fake flowers from afloral.com
however, i remembered something on weddingbee awhile ago about this, so check this out:

or check this out too.

although i am not doing it, i think its a great idea!
I think it would look lovely with those mason jar lanterns (or even just decorative lanterns) that are so popular right now. Sounds like a great creative way to save money!
Can they hold a hanging votive or carry an LED flameless candle?!?! lol Does that sound horrible?!!?
I love the idea!!!
What about one of those flameless candles? that would eliminate the blowing thing.
Hi ladies,
I saw these and wanted to share and hear what you thought. I found these at online wholesaler Koyal.

I'm thinking that I could decorate the glass part with my champagne ribbon, pearls, a brooch, etc to make it pretty, then put the candle in, light it, and voila! It has a handle much like a bouquet, but is candle instead. and NO wax mess!
I'm having lanterns everywhere, but I personally don't think I want to have BMs carry a lantern because it hangs instead of drawing attention to the face. I hope this is a solution!
... and then at the reception it could just be placed back in its wire holder thingy :o)
I'm not doing this personally but I have seen a few pictures of it and I think it looks really neat.
This is one I found.
@samsonite44: I'm looking for this on the Koyal website and can't find it. Would you happen to know the item # or the name? I think these would work great for my wedding!
@Belle2Be - I never really found what I was looking for, and FI wasn't a big fan of the idea. I ended up switching jobs in the meantime, and now work for a florist, so needless to say, we are using real flowers now :-)
Im having my girls walk with clutch purses. Being that my wedding is semi-formal and new years DAY too. I thought it fit perfect and it was wayyy cheaper. Etsy.com!

Has anyone seen this done before? I found a photo in a magazine of an evening wedding, with the bridesmaids carrying glass candle holders and tapered candles wrapped in ribbon. It was so beautiful.
What do you think? We are having a semi-formal evening wedding on New Years Eve. Our colors are black, ivory, and champagne. All the bridesmaids will be in black, except my sister (MOH) in champagne.
