We just called and asked, but I saw a super cute post a while ago where a bride made t-shirts with the word "Bridesmaid" in bling and sent it to each of the girls she wanted to ask! I wish I would have thought/had time to do that!
I gave them each a gourmet cupcake from my fave shop and a card that said, "It would be sweet if you were my bridesmaid."
i sent a card to each of my BM's formally asking them with a letter a la mission impossible style "should they choose to accept" heheheeh they thought it was cute.
I just asked - almost didn't need to. I had 2 BMs, my sister and my oldest, closest friend - they knew they would be in my wedding from the time we were little.
@spaganya-ahh! That's so cool! I'd love to do something like that for the guys! What did you do?
My bridesmaids, maid of honor and matron of honor all live in different states. I sent each of them a bouquet of flowers in the color of our wedding flowers (fuschia) with a note telling each one why I loved them and asking if they would be my bridesmaid/maidofhonor/matron of honor.
My first choice would have been to ask each one in person, but given the fact that all 7 are scattered across the country, it wouldnt' have been possible.
I found some cute cards at a Stationary store and found a cute poem I'm going to write in the inside and send it to them. I had thought about doing a cute candy or cupcake idea I'd seen, but since most of my girls don't live near me I decided to just to the card.
i am making them each little cards (well, for the bridesmaids)... asking the groomsmen (3 of them) is up to my FI..he'll prob just call them :)
@pmerr - the card contained a letter that was more formal telling them how special they were to me, rehashing memories and then asking them to be part of my bridal party. the mission impossible letter was sealed with the "your mission should you choose to accept it..." on the front. when they opened it, it was kind of an acceptance letter - "thank you for agreeing to be part of my bridal party!" then went on to give the details of teh ceremony, reception, and all the festivities taht are gonna lead up to it as well as possible prices for things and what the theme and color was for the wedding so they knew. It also solicited them to sign up for the listserv i started for us to communicate.
everyone thought it was cute - and was rather fitting for me and my line of work LOL
I just asked over the phone but I heard a great story from a girl I worked with: The bride bought a bottle of wine from the year that she first met each of her bridesmaids and sent it to them with a sweet note about how long they had been friends etc etc. I thought it was a super cute idea.
@MsK: lol well....i had 12 groomsmen in 4 diff states....so i chose to do it this way...

How did you ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to stand up in your wedding?
