I have never heard of a venue saying you aren’t allowed into the venue until 2 hours before the ceremony. That’s absurd, you won’t even unpack stuff in two hours…find another venue that is more accommodating. You are not a bridezilla. Beware any vendor that gives off a vibe that they think you are being unreasonable becasue you have opinions…

Wow! That is so rude, and nothing that you asked for is unreasonable. You are paying THEM, and if they want you to use their services, they certainly should not insult you or insinuate you are being unreasonable. Find a different venue, for sure.

I’m not sure if that is standard or not.  I did a lot of DIY, but i definitely did not decorate or set anything up myself for the wedding.  She probably meant that they could handle putting up your decorations.  Either way, she was rude!

Definitely not bridezilla. I’m going very DIY myself with my wedding – I’m even planning on making fabric bouquets for my bridesmaids. I think it’s a great way to save money and/or make your wedding day unique to you.

When I was an event planner, I had a venue that didn’t let us in until 2 hours before the event. Actually, I want to say it was more like 90 minutes. I was absolutely miserable. Even the most calm, collected and organized professional event manager with a staff of about 40 (which I had) is going to be positively RAGGED with this type of turnover time unless you are literally having no decorations and no table settings. Please try to buy yourself at least 3 hours. Please!

Are you locked into this venue? If not, you may want to shop around a bit. You will have enough to deal with during the wedding planning process, a snippy venue would just be too much!

@wkidder:  I wouldn’t be booking with a venue that insulted me. You want to set up your wedding, not control everyone else’s lives. You are not a bridezilla at all.

@wkidder:  you’ll hear this over and over again but once you invite other people the day is no longer just about you. So you have to be respectful to your family, your bridal party, and your guests. Things will not always go exactly as planned. You will have to make compromises. Sometimes people will disagree with your decisions and “but I’M THE BRIDE!” is not a valid justification for them to go along with whatever you say. Mostly though wedding planning is lots of fun and as long as you pace yourself and don’t sweat the small stuff you’ll have a great time.

@wkidder:  It sounds to me like this vendor was trying to distract you from your gut feeling by trying to guilt you in to feeling like you’re being a bridezilla. Obviously they are offering a very crappy deal (it sounds to me like they are trying to squeeze in as many weddings as they can) and this women clearly knows that.

I’m overseeing the decorating of my venue (its not DIY) because I have a very specific taste and vision in my head. I designed my wedding from top to bottom. I don’t think of myself as a bridezilla, because I’ve been very easy going the entire planning process, but I am bit of a control freak and have a hard time letting other people do things for me.

@wkidder:  it seems I’ve totally misunderstood your question. No, you are not a bridezilla and yes, that was very rude of her to say.

My venue only allows people in 3 hours before, but it is the type of space that typically gets basically no decoration so they don’t have a problem with it. I won’t be doing any set-up, so that is why I have a DOC and a bunch of friends who can go check on it!
