As I was shopping for my gown, each sales consultant I worked with seemed surprised when I said that I wanted my dress to be “bright white!” One even said, “Wow, you’re brave. Are you sure you want to wear bright white?” She also said that ivory and off-white were way more popular and that they didn’t have much in bright white. I’m having an outdoor ceremony and bright white just says BRIDE to me. Any other BRIGHT WHITE brides out there? Why did you choose white? Can I see your bright white dress?

The consultant at one of the stores that I shopped at told us that 70% of her brides choose ivory over white dresses. I was very close to getting a lace dress, and everyone insisted that the dress should be ivory, as the lace would stand out and look better. For me however, I’ve always wanted a white dress, and I was really struggling with the idea of getting a dress in any colour other than the white I’ve always dreamed about. I was ready to stand firm in my decision to go white.
Luckily, I wasn’t 100% in love with the other dress, kept on searching and found my dream dress yesterday. It doesn’t have lace, so I ordered it in bright white like I’ve always wanted. The one that I tried on in the store is in ivory, or I’d post pictures for you.

I also wanted a dress that was bright white, and one consultant told me the same thing about how ivory is much more popular. She also told me that fair skinned individuals (such as myself) can be washed out in a bright white dress and that an off white is more flattering.
I ended up trying on some bright whites (which were difficult to find), but after I tried on some ivory dresses I could totally see what she was talking about. The ivory is so much more flattering on me than a bright white. Since I had to buy a sample dress, no time for ordering, I was less picky about color and went by style, and I actually love the ivory dress I found, I couldn’t imagine it in a bright white.

I absolutely had to have a bright white dress! I am fair skinned and the colours Ivory and Off White did nothing for me. I kinda looked liked I spent a few years smoking in the dress and then stored it badly. It just washed me out. I wear a lot of white summery tops on a daily basis and they make me look fresh and sparkly (so I’m told). I just couldn’t pull off Ivory. FYI when I bought my dress I was told the same thing and they only had two white dresses in the shop!! Whatever happened to the “Big WHITE Wedding” lol. My dress is attached. Picture quality perhaps doesn’t show up the white too well but it is VERY white 🙂

My dress was definitely bright white! I went into dress shopping knowing I wanted white. I just always wanted a white wedding gown… just not a fan of ivory/off white dresses, personally. But here it is:

I wanted a fairly white ivory, if I had to chose between a yellowish ivory and a true white, I would have gone with white. Luckily, my dress came in the colour I wanted, I found it was more flattering.
I’m surprised by what you were told though, most dresses can be ordered as a true white (even if it’s not the most popular). I think that in the store most of the dresses are not white simply because you notice any damage or discolouration that much sooner. Any dress that I actually looked into could be ordered in white. As long as you’re not buying off the rack it shouldn’t be an issue.

Mine was pretty bright white. I didn’t like the way ivory looked on me.

SO likes me in white so that’s probably what I’ll be getting. Who knows though.

that’s what my consultants told me too. that ivory or diamond white was more flattering on most skin tones. i think bright white looks great on tanned skin. in the end, both my dresses are ivory (one a little lighter ivory than the other since it was taffeta and i was told that silk taffeta is never really white but it’s still pretty white) because i wasn’t sure if i wanted to be tanned for my wedding.

My dress is a super bright white. I don’t have any pictures on me right now but the shop owner had said people commented on it’s color and how bright it was.
