    I think the cake, packaged well, can totally be transported on a 3.5 hour journey. You can do all sorts of things to keep it from hitting the sides of the cake tin. It sounds like you’re getting a good deal by having it made before hand. Ask tbhe baker if she has any recommendations on how to keep it steady and well packaged.
