Hey lovely bees!
Wow it’s been a long time since I posted here, and after a two year engagement I can now say that we’re looking at booking our wedding (very excited!).
We’ve decided that we want a destination wedding in New York for October 2014, and have discussed this with around 20 of our closest family / friends who all love the idea.
Being a British Bee and having never planned a wedding, I wondered whether any of my fellow Brit bees (or U.S. bees for that matter!) have advice on the best way to book something like this?
We are currently looking at booking with http://www.americansky.co.uk, but the prices we’ve been quoted so far seem incredibly steep considering we’re looking at over a year away! Although we do of course have to accept that going from the UK to New York it’s bound to include expense!
Any advice would be most welcome 🙂
It may be worth mentioning that we’ll be looking at a group booking for the wedding party, nine adults, plus one child (my nephew).

The Virgin weddings & honeymoons brochure has wedding packages to NYC. They looked amazing! I know that where I live there is a Virgin Holidays rep in the Debenhams store. They were so helpful when we enquired about our Honeymoon to NYC.

Thanks for posting 🙂
We actually talked to Virgin in the first instance and they do have some fantastic packages. The only thing was that when we asked for a quote, they didn’t break it down / explain what was included, so they weren’t that helpful (and the enquiries over the phone were a nightmare, kept getting passed around to different people!).
So we decided to shop around a bit to compare which is how we found American Sky. Although I’m very indecisive so thought it best to get some opinions from brides before committing to anything lol.

Ok that’s cool. I’m really sorry I can’t help you further. All the best though, I’d love to get married in Central Park, where my FI proposed. Family wishes & budgets won. So we settled on a possible Honeymoon there instead. You might have more luck when the NY Bees wake up!

No worries – thanks for replying 🙂
Yeah, my mum emigrated to the U.S. a couple of years ago (Orlando) and I don’t have much extended family so there’s only a few of us.
A honeymoon there will be amazing!

We booked our elopement with Thomson Tailormade and it was really reasonable, and would have been even more so has we booked ages in advance!
That was travel only so I don’t know if you wanted some kind of wedding package, but I know officiants aren’t expensive from my own experience and you may find it cheaper and easier booking everything separately.
Congratulations too, doll!

I have chatted with @smealeys who is another UK bride getting married in the UK. Not sure if she booked a package but She has a few threads where people were giving advice. I believe she is getting married in Central park.
I am a Canadian living in NYC. We did a civil ceremony at city hall back in March and are having a reception in (ulp) 3 weeks. Make sure you get your wedding licence at city hall the day before!

@smealeys Thanks 🙂 Congrats to you too!
I hadn’t looked at their wedding options, so thanks for pointing them out – will give them a look! Yes, we’d be looking for a wedding package, but American Sky can also do these without the flights hotels (although they don’t tell you that when you’re getting quotes, of course).
@canuckandkiwi Thanks! I’ll have a look back over the threads.
Yes, we’ve been told by American Sky that they would help us arrange the wedding licence the day after we arrive in NYC, so that’s good!
