We have a Chicco Keyfit 30 and I really like a lot. I don't know how much truth there is to this but I remember my midwife telling me to stay away from Graco carseats. She went to some sort of conference with a bunch or chiropractors who told her that Graco products are hard on the spine. I dunno...
I was actually looking into this car seat! It was my top choice but now...
We had the Chaperone and no problems with it. However, this is spurring us on to switch to the convertible carseat. (Also a Britax). They really are great carseats.
@Mrs. DG: I would really like our convertible to be a Britax when the time comes. We might be using a hand-me-down infant seat and stroller from SIL as long as it is up to regulation and doesn't have a recall but I still have to check it out.
@northernazbride: Really? I liked it because that one goes up to 35lbs and will last longer. I will do some research on that, as I was pretty much settled on that one.
I was originally looking at the Britax Chaperone in Cowmooflauge because I liked the pattern, but I wanted something that will last for a year or so.
Steph- l didn't research the issue myself, so please take it with a grain of salt... but if you find any more info I'd like to know as well 'cause they are very popular! On another note we're planning on getting a britax convertible when the time comes.
We have the Graco snugride 35 and we love it. I did a little research before purchasing, and I didn't see anything about spine injuries... Also, the guy who installed our car seat said he really like Gracos because they're easy to install, which means more people install them correctly the first time.
I think we'll be switching to a convertible soon, though. Suggestions, anyone? We want a convertible with a rear-facing weight limit of at least 35 pounds.
we have the smaller graco snugride and its great! I know some people who got the 35 (its pretty new) and they are mixed - people who don't like it think it is too big/heavy and it doesn't work with all the infant car seat stroller adapters. Not sure that many people will really lug around an infant seat when the baby is much bigger than 25 pounds (people seem to switch to a convertible by then)...just something to consider!
Well, what's better? Starting with a bucket seat and moving to a convertible at 25 lbs or getting a bucket that goes to 35 lbs or starting with a convertible and using that the whole time?
Thanks for the advice and chat on this ladies, I am driving my husband insane talking about it, nearly every day.
So I looked into this recall and wasn't too impressed. It definitely wouldn't keep me away from the seat. The only part that is recalled is the chest clip... AND the risk is that it breaks while you are clipping it in, not that there is a safety problem once it is clipped for travel. They are offering everyone who has one of those models a new clip.
I'm sticking with Britax. We're using the Marathon 70, because she'll basically never need another carseat!

Did everyone see this?

I thought Britax was one of the safest seats out there. A broken chest clip is a big deal, right?
What car seat is everyone planning on getting? I'm going to get the Graco Snugride DS 35 that goes up to 35 lbs...
