I recently tore my toenail, and I fixed it using this method:http://www.stuffiputonmyself.com/2012/09/my-nail-issues-are-well-documented.html

seriously, it was so easy and you can’t even tell it apart from the other nails!  of course this is less helpful if you broke your nail all the way off.  but next time you crack one, this method will keep you going until it grows out.  you don’t have to glue the material all over the nail, I think it’s fine to patch just the broken area.

oh also, I switched to sephora nail polish remover. it’s $9, but it does not dry out your nails and is SO worth it.  trust me, I can be a total cheapskate when it comes to cosmetics, but this stuff is amazing. my nails are in way better condition now that I’ve been using this for a while.

also to answer your question: yes, I think it looks pretty bad to have all long nails and one short one.  if you can’t fix your nail, then maybe just shorten the others slightly so there is not a big difference between them?
