I’ve been to a couple of weddings where the women wore brown and the men wore black tuxes. It looked fine – great, even, and it’s what I’m planning on doing (in early June!). Go with the colors you like, I say. Match them to your personality, not the season.

that’s what i did!! i got married on july 28 and my bridesmaids wore a-little below knee length beautiful brown chiffon dresses. (v- neckline)

i prettied it up by added a peach-y sash to the waist. we had pink-peach flowers for their bouquets and tehy were a hit. brown is really "in" and it looked great. (think brown = velvet-y chocolate not poop-y brown)

the men wore black tuxes, and the wedding photos came out fine. (ps. the guests kept asking where the lovely brown bridesmaids dresses came from + the bridesmaids got to keep a dress they could wear again–since brown is not like pink or aqua or orange- a color that isn’t as easily  re-wearable.

We’re having brown dresses and black tuxes. I’m not too worried. I’ve seen lot of pictures where it looks wonderful. If you want to, you can search the Knot’s picture gallery for brown details and see if you can find some pictures. I also agree that the season shouldn’t necessarily dictate the colors you use. And like heatherg said, brown is a lot easier to wear again! Good luck!

Hey there. I don’t think there is anything wrong with brown in the summer. I actually considered it for one of my colors for a while. As for the tuxes, I’ve seen people do the brown dresses with black tuxes, and it looks fine. Also, I know that there are also a few designers that make brown tuxes (which I love!).

My favorite:

Calvin Klein Cadbury Brown Tuxedo

I think Sarno and Sons has it, but I’m not sure who else might have it.

Hope that helps 🙂

Our guys are wearing those calvin klein tuxes!  they are so nice.  our original plan was for the girls to wear brown dresses, guys wear black tuxes.  but I am weird and I didn’t like it together.  now they are wearing the brown tuxes and green dresses.  But another idea for the summer if the girls are wearing brown is that light khaki color?  it would compliment very well, and its a good color for summer.

I just got married end of the summer and my bridesmaids wore brown dresses and the groomsmen wore black tuxes with brown ties and vests.  We accented with light blue jewelry, flowers, etc, but it looked beautiful (if I must say so myself)

 Here are the bridesmaids:

I went to a wedding in May and the colors were brown and pink  (seems to be quite popular this year!)  Anyhow, the tuxs were black, with brown vests.  When the bride told me, I wasnt certain if it would look right, but it actually looked really, REALLY good.

I did brown tea length bridemaid dresses on July 21. The guys wore black tuxes with champagne vests and a darker champagne tie. It looked great. If you would like pictures email me at alysonschwartz at gmail dot com

my best friend married in july and the moh wore a full length brown dress with no splash while the maids wore a teal blue [wedding colors] and the guys looked dashing in their black tuxes.

i agree with everyone else, definitely go for it. don’t worry about matching your dresses to the season. if you’d like pictures, PM me and i’ll email one.

Our wedding colors, for our May wedding, are chocolate brown and light pink. I don’t think you should worry about the season at all. I think the style of the dress should convey more about the season than the color, plus pink is a spring/summer color!

I too am trying to decide what to do about the boy’s clothes. My FI wants to wear a suit so I think we might go for a dark grey suit with light pink shirt and a brown and pink tie. I want to wait until the girls dresses come in so we can try them together.

Also, I went to a wedding where the girls wore brown and the boys wore black and I didn’t think it looked strange at all.

My bridesmaids are also wearing brown J Crew dresses! I had the same worries as you. “Is it going to be summery enough?” In the end, it’s your wedding and it should be whatever color you want it to be! It doesn’t have to match the season at all!

We are thinking of matching our brown with a nice orange and pear green. I’ve seen pictures of brown matched with almost any color and it looks awesome! So don’t worry about the colors…go with what you like best! 🙂 Good luck!
