Our girls are wearing a latte brown and the guys are black tuxes with latte vest. the groom will wear a dark brown vest to be different. Was your FI hoping to have a black vest? Then just get the GMs to wear a vest to match the BMs
It'll look fine. My FSIL had her BM's in "Truffle" and The guys were in black tuxes with baby blue vests. it looked very nice! = ) I'll post a pic when I switch to the laptop.
I think as long as the BM dresses are a lighter brown (versus an espresso) you should be just fine!
We were originally thinking chocolate brown dresses, with taupe/champagne sashes, but we're flexible on the shades. I'd be fine with having the guys in champagne or latte vests.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's pics! :)
I am in the same boat -- want to have chocolate brown dresses but the FH REALLY does not want a brown suit. I was thinking it may be too much to have dark brown AND black AND my white wedding dress. But maybe I'm just over analyzing things. For instance, the picture posted above seems to look very nice.
My friends had the bridesmaid dresses in brown & the guys in black tuxes (with sort of a goldy-champagny vest/tie combo). The bride's dress was sort of a goldy colour too so it looked especially nice. It worked! I'd show pictures but I don't think they'd be ok with that.
Here are a few results from google!

I was in a wedding where there were brown bridesmaids' dresses and black suits. It really looked fine - I think black is so traditional in weddings that you can never go wrong with it. I did think the variety of colors as far as the flowers and colors in the dresses (they were blue and brown) made it look a little busy, and lopsided because the guys wore black ties. But it was still very pretty.
I also did black tuxes with brown BM dresses (they were 'truffle' from David's) and I think it looked just fine. Here's a pic:

My Fi and I agreed on having brown toned bridesmaids dresses and I always assumed that we'd get brown tuxes to match (love the Calvin Klein ones). When I mentioned the brown tuxes casually to my FI, he told me he always imagined himself wearing a more traditional black tux (no cumberbund though). Obviously, I want him to wear the tux he's always dreamed of! Can you share pictures of your bridesmaids wearing brown and your guys wearing black?
Otherwise, we're contemplating changing our bridemaids color to either blue or green. Luckily, we haven't gone bridesmaid dress shopping yet!
