My friend had brown tuxes at her wedding. Brown's ok, it's just not my preference. I like the sharp, crispness of a black tux.
For our wedding, we had champagne also and here's what they wore
Groomsmen: black tux, champagne tie, white shirt, black vest
Groom: black tux, white tie, black shirt, white vest.
I love the brown tuxes!!! I think it's a combination of classy and laid back!! I love the look and wish I could use them but we have truffle colored dresses. A lot darker color dresses than yours.
I've always been puzzled about choosing brown for bridesmaids dresses because of this issue. I don't like brown tuxes and I think your fiance is right in suggesting that it will look dated. It also makes me wonder, why bother with tuxes if they are brown? Brown suits would be better in my opinion.
I'm still not sure about the brown bridesmaid dresses with the black tuxes, but I think the classic look of black in the tux would be better if you don't want to do suits. I think my solution here would be black tuxes and champagne dresses and use brown accents, but I'm guessing the BMs already have their dresses.
Brown bridesmaid dresses and black tuxes/suits really dont look bad at all! I saw a wedding being photographed near the washington monument that had this look and it looked great! Im having brown bridesmaid dresses with black suits and think it will look just fine!
The brown tuxes are fabulous! That's an awesome idea!
We had brown tuxes for our wedding and we loved them! I have attached a couple of pictures showing what they looked like. So I am biased but I say brown tuxes and not the black, but that is my opinion! Good luck!
im having the same issue - our dresses are espresso, the colors of the wedding are dark brown, ivory, dark green and antique gold. our dresses will be espresso with antique gold trim - i think the guys will wear black suit tuxes (not bowtie) with chocolate brown/espresso vests and ties, and FH will wear antique gold vest and tie....
i THINK that will look ok.... i like pulling in the brown into the black tuxes so its not such a stretch

OK, I need some advice because FI and I do not agree. I also feel that this decision is ultimately his because he and the groomsmen are the ones wearing the tuxes!
Anyways, my wedding colors are dark brown, champagne with accent colors of ivory and peach. My bridesmaids will be wearing espresso colored jcrew dresses. FI has always insisted on the men being in tuxes. Black tuxes with champagne vests. FI does not like black tuxes with dark brown vests although I think it's fine.
I have always been OK with this plan because I do not generally like brown tuxes, BUT last weekend I saw this blog post about a local wedding and really liked the brown tuxes: http://coreyann.com/blog/2010/02/wedding-kristin-jacob-at-the-club-at-key-center/
FI is concerned that the brown tuxes will look dated and we will cringe when looking at our wedding pictures in the future :)
So bees, give me your opinion. What do you like best:
1. FI and groomsmen in black tuxes. Groomsmen will have champagne vests and tie, FI will be in ivory vest and tie.
2. FI and groomsmen in brown tuxes. Groomsmen will have champagne vests and tie, FI will be in ivory vest and tie.
3. Other
