    Hello fellow bees,

I want to ask you opinion about my brunch buffet reception (although they say that anything before 1 pm should not be called a reception!).  Our ceremony is 10 am and the celebration would start around 1130 am or 12 noon.

Do you think it's tacky?  We opted for a morning wedding because of budget concerns.  The luncheon menu was still too expensive but with less food.  So we thought, brunch!  We will have 4 kinds of salads, eggs, cheese blintzes, bacon and sausage, vegetables, potatoes, a chicken dish, a beef dish and a roasted pig (because we're filipinos!!! LOL!).  We would also have some muffins and croissants, a dessert buffet, and our wedding cake.  Is serving bacon and sausage okay?! I don't want to look too cheap that our guests would start talking.

Should I just spend more money (about 1500 or 2000 more) and have a lunch menu?

    Need you opinion ladies!

    Thanks a bunch! :)

Ooooh sounds good!  Talk to Crebre80!  She's having one too!  I love your unique touches and the roasted pig.  It's so exciting to get to celebrate with your friends and embrace and learn about their heritage too!  Great idea to have the pig roast.

It sounds delicious.  Geez I wish I were on that guest list!

If it's great, happens to save you $$, then it's a win win!

Sounds good. I can't imagine how it would come across as cheap unless you only serve boxes of cereal. Brunch buffets at restaurants are very fancy affairs and not cheap by any means.

I personally love brunches and the variety they offer, and since you're having meats no one will think twice about it not being lunch per se, so imo go for it!

@ms. sassy:  FI is nuts for bacon.  and filipinos are generally just nuts for roasted pig.  i can't wait for the roasted pig!!!

@designish:  same here!!! ahhh... truly the best meal of the day

@nurseamanda:  good to know somebody who actually went to one and thought it was not cheap.  thanks for the input!

Brunch sounds great! I'm a vegetarian, but I come from a rural area where pig roasts are the norm, so a pig roast has kind of fond community-bonding memories for me.

I think that sounds delicious!  And, I feel like people can be picky about breakfast food - I know I love more savory breakfast food and dislike sweet, and my parents vice versa.  The buffet sounds like it'll have a great variety and suit everyone's tastes!

@crecre - OMG I am foaming at the mouth. You menu sounds divine. It definitely would have been better than the meal at my venue!

@msgthoney - a brunch is a fantastic idea. I have never attended a brunch style wedding before but with what you are planning, it sounds perfect. The best of both worlds! Oh and you can have just as much fun at an early reception. It's all about your audience.

OK, I think I am going to go gnawl off my arm, lol!

I'm doing a brunch reception as well! We haven't met with our caterer yet (though we have one!) but we're thinking waffles with all sorts of fruit topping (or crepes) and bacon/sausage and eggs... So more basic breakfast stuff, but it'll be at lunch time- so brunch :D

Another brunch gal here :) I am so glad that brunch receptions have been getting talked about more around here! Obviously I think morning weddings are awesome! I have never heard that anything before 1pm is not a reception. Tell that to Meg at A Practical Wedding - her guests danced until they sweated through their clothes at her brunch reception!

Some thoughts: Do you have to have your ceremony at 10am? We are having ours at 10:30, like crebre80, and I will probably have to get up at 5:30 to get all of us ready and pictures done!

I almost think you are having too much food, but maybe your family are huge eaters. I think two kinds of salads would be plenty, and with a pig roast, I don't even think you need the bacon and sausage! But that's just me.

Also... just a comment: I sense some hesitation on your part, like brunch isn't your idea of the perfect reception. I just wanted to say while I obviously think it is awesome, if its not what you want, try to find other ways to do what you DO want!

I love the idea of brunch :) Even though our wedding is in the evening, my fiance not so unseriously wanted waffles. We're not doing that, but I think it'd be great for an early afternoon reception!

@danielle:  I read that in some wedding etiquette book somewhere, that anything before 1 pm should not be called a reception.  I thought it was ridiculous but I thought that's how it should be.  So to avoid any etiquette faux pas, i actually put celebration instead of reception in my reception cards LOL!

And yes, we have to have our celebration at 10 am.  We are only allowed 2 hours at the church so we took the 9 to 11 slot.  And since it's gonna be a catholic ceremony (with a mass), 10 am is actually cutting it too close.  We debated about making it 930 but I thought the guests would probably be not too happy about that.

We are filipinos and it's kinda in our culture to have tons of food, especially in special occasions.  That's one of the reasons why buffets are more common than plated meals.  My family's motto (and his family's too!) is better in excess than lacking.  And I spoke with his aunt just this weekend and she mentioned that "motto" again. LOL!  I guess you may find a hint of hesitation there because eventhough we love buffets, it's not very common.  But I'm so glad to have found fellow brunch brides so I am HAPPY!!!!

And I do wish that our guests would be dancing the afternoon away as well.  That would be awesome!
