I’m new to Weddingbee, and I created this account so that I could get opinions on my brushed 18k rose gold wedding band. It’s a replica of the Lyria Leaves gold band, made by Schubach’s. It is beautiful and came out almost perfect–except that for some reason, the brushed finish makes it look very much like yellow gold. It clashes rather strongly, to my eyes, with the 18k rose gold of my engagement ring. The color difference is rather shocking. (See attached picture.) The ring is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, and I don’t want to be “that person”–but it bothers me that the color doesn’t match my engagement ring, since the rose gold color is one of my favorite things about my engagement ring. But Beth at Schubach’s has been wonderful and said that they can redo the finish.
So my questions are: Has anyone else had this experience with brushed 18k rose gold? I do want to have the finish redone somehow… Should I have the leaves polished, and the stems brushed? I also thought about having the leaves redone in a hammered finish, similar to the pictures attached… But I’m not sure that that would solve the color issue. Thoughts? Thank you!

oregonbeach: Are you positive that is rose gold? It looks very much like yellow gold to me. Is it possible they sent you the wrong band?

On my screen, your band (which is lovely, btw) looks like yellow gold. I’m no expert, but I wouldn’t expect the finish to change the color that much. I would ask them to check that the ring is actually 18K rose gold. Personally, I’m not a fan of the hammered finish for that band. I would go with polished, brushed, or a combination with one of those finishes for the leaves and one for the stems, like you have it now.

Hhhmmm. That is really different. I’d be inclined to think they made a mistake and used yellow gold, although, what do I know really. Could you have it done in 14K? That would mean less yellow (since gold is naturally yellow) and more alloy, which is what makes it look rosey in the first place? I’d ask Beth for help. Do the “stems” match what you’re going for? Could you have the leaves shiny and the stems matte? I sometimes like mixed metals so it could grow on me, I just don’t think it’s what you asked for. That being said, I think it’s a really pretty ring.

I’ve seen brushed rose gold in person, and that finish doesn’t make it look any more yellow IMO. That looks very much like yellow gold. 18k can look more yellow than 14, but not usually by as much as it looks in your picture. That said, the same composition of rose gold can look a lot different depending on who you get it from. I’ve seen very very pink 14k rose gold, and also 14k rose gold that looked more coppery than pink.

oregonbeach: Like others have said, I would suspect that they sold you a yellow gold band, not a rose gold one. I think even brushed rose gold has a pink color, and the polished stems of the leaves, on my computer screen, look the same color as my yellow gold engagement ring.
I like the finish on it as it is now. But be aware that the brushed finish will likely smooth out to a polished one on its own within a month or so. My e-ring came with a matte/brushed finish, which was very pretty, but it didn’t take long for it to become as shiny as a polished ring– which I don’t mind, actually.

oregonbeach: That’s a beautiful band. I really like the style and finish of it (brushed leaves and polished stems). But I agree with the PPs. It looks like yellow gold to me.

This isn’t to say they made a mistake and sold you yellow gold, it could be that this is their version of 18k rose gold and their 14k could be more in line with what you want.
I found this thread showing different variations of 18 and 14k yellow and rose gold – scroll down a bit to see pics: http://www.pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/14k-vs-18k-rose-gold-t148047.html

I love your set. I prefer the look of mixed metals so would have done it this way intentionally! I actually have a rose gold band and a platnium e-ring.
The band certainly doesn’t look like rose gold to me – are you sure it is?

It is a super pretty ring.. But, I agree with everyone else. That looks nothing like rose gold. That looks yellow gold all the way! Maybe they did the wrong gold color? I would send it back for sure. And, I like how it is now. And, I don’t think they would look good with hammer finish.

My half rose wedding band has a matte finish, and it looks closer in color to your wedding band than your engagement ring. I think the contrast looks nice, but if you don’t like it, try getting all of it in the same finish as your engagement ring.

18k rose gold does tend to look less pink so maybe it’s just a very subtle “glow” rather than a solid pink for your ring? Turnanewleaf’s link was very eye opening for me. The rose and the yellow gold looked nearly identical in the pics unless you looked at the tint on the inside of the rings!

Thanks for your input everybody! I didn’t expect to get so much response so fast! 🙂
It is definitely rose gold–I asked Beth as soon as I saw it. 🙁 The inside of the ring is a bit pinker, which of course you can’t see in the picture. I think my plan is to have the finish redone so that the leaves are polished and the stems are brushed. That way there will at least be more rose gold color.
Anybody else have brushed rose gold rings?? How do yours compare??

I love the ring! But your right it does look like yellow gold..but mixed metals are in right now!..id send it back if you aren’t happy to see if they can polish it to a glossy finish..but I still think it may look more yellow..perhaps brushed 14k rose gold would match better?
