sweetpea8181:  Totally!  White dresses from department stores are a great option.  I live in the boonies, didn’t want to drive to a bunch of bridal stores, didn’t particularly need the traditional bridal shopping experience, and didn’t want to spend a crapload on a dress.  I ordered a bunch of dresses online from department stores and went with one from Macy’s – $120!  No regrets whatsoever – I loved the dress and I loved spending that little on it.

Which did you choose??

My ceremony dress is a family dress, but my reception dress is likely going to come from Nordstrom’s (c’mon sale!). It’s INSANE how reasonable the prices are, even when you look at comparable dresses for “bridal”. Seriously, tack the word “wedding” onto anything and it becomes 2x-3x as expensive!

I am also shopping for a dress from a dep’t store, or just a regular white/ivory gown from a reasonable designer. I am not into the big, stiff, boning-reinforced look of wedding dresses, and I don’t want anything poofy that drags on the ground. So far I’ve found a lot of nice things at Saks, Nordstroms, ASOS, Polyvore, BCBG Maxazria and Modcloth.

I had a Modcloth dress picked out, but ended up returning it because it was too short. So I’m still searching.

lolot:  PS, I LOVE your dress style and jewelry and have been using it as inspiration. I’d rip you off outright but Macy’s is sold out of that beautiful lace dress. Well done though!!!

I found this dress in a formal store downtown for about 240$. 🙂

I think this is a really good idea. A dress for $300 is a great price. I’ve been looking at bridal shops and only finding things above $1,000 + any alteration costs. I mean all of the clothing I own at this moment doesn’t even add up to $1,000, I would love to have money left over for some new clothes for the honeymoon or something.

ohnatto:  hey thanks so much!  I’ve seen that dress come and go at Macy’s.com a couple times, so I wonder if they’ll be bringing it back…

sweetpea8181:  thank you!  Yours is gorgeous, and fyi I found that not having a train was awesome – much less hassle.

I love the second one so much! I do not want to spend more than $200 tops on a dress, and have been looking outside the box. I can’t decide!
