I know these are becoming more and more popular, so I am hoping there are people out there who can guide us in our search. We are looking to keep to a budget, yet have all of our loved ones (around 175 adults and 25 kids) for a lovely day or weekend event of camp-like activities, an outdoor ceremony and then a reception with tasty but not fancy food. We are hoping to be in the New England area- MA, NY, NJ, CT, NH, VT… We have guests coming from Northern NJ, upstate NY, CT, and MA for the most part.
We had our heart set on renting out a camp and making it a weekend affair, with a pot luck on Friday night, then a color war between the parties (races, games, etc) and crafts and other camp-like activities during the day, then a ceremony outside, and a reception wherever there is room to eat and dance. Some of the camps we have looked into can’t do it the weekend of August 24th, because it’t too close to when camp gets out. We’re having trouble finding other options, so our hopes for getting the wedding to happen in 2014 are dwindling… Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is August 24th the only day you are willing to do it? Because that is very close to the end of camp, so you would have difficulty getting any working camp to host your wedding then. Early September or late May might be your sweet spot. It is getting a little late for booking weddings (especially for places that hold 200) in 2014 – some of the places I checked out were fully booked over a year out.
Suggestions from a list I formed:

@abillionmoments It sounds like you are describing my wedding. We are getting married on Aug 30 at Camp Kiwanee. I checked out every camp in New England back in April and ended up settling for this date because it was the only one left at the venue we loved. Does it have to be a saturday? If you would be willing to do a Sunday I am sure you could get something still. If not, could you wait until next summer and book now? I also found that a LOT of camps I looked in to were not actually budget friendly. Since the idea has caught on it seems the camps are raising their prices. Here are some places I checked out. I am happy to answer questions just PM me.
Camp Kiwanee – Our Venue
Pinewood Lodge – Camp Ground no cabins
The Concord Scout House – No Cabins
Point Sebago – Camp Ground not cabins
Blue Water Farm

Not sure this is still helpful, but if you’re willing to look at Maine, there are a bunch of summer camps here! I’m getting married 9/20 at Fernwood Cove in Harrison – we also looked at Camp Waziyatah which is nearby. mainecamps.org is a good resource, so many that we contacted do weddings (varying prices though and I’m sure varying availability). We chose Fernwood because it was affordable ($4K for the entire camp for the entire weekend) and gorgeous. Waziyatah is the same price, and more traditionally summer camp like. super fun! We also went to a wedding a year or two ago at Maine Teen Camp in southern maine that was SO FUN!
