@GeorgiaBride5:  We just went on a week long vacation to the Secrets Aura in Cozumel.  It’s been recently aquired by Secrets  and had some improving to do, but it was still a nice trip.  I think we got a pretty good price and including airfare from ORD we were right around 3k for the two of us. Also– have you considered a cruise? I think you could easily do one for under 3k.

You might also want to look into working with a travel agent, they know the best deals and can do the legwork for you.  This trip was my first time working with one and I liked the process.

We are staying for 5 nights at the Valentin Imperial Maya at the end of July and first of August. It’s all-inclusive and adults only – both were requirements for us. I booked it based on favorable reviews from previous honeymooners. We are also flying out of Atlanta and spent $2500 for everything (including insurance) except tours off the resort, which we still have to determine.

I have done both cruises and all-inclusives before. The advantage of the all-inclusive is you don’t have to worry about what kind of bar tab you are running up. But they are both fun, and I will do both again.

@GeorgiaBride5:  We are getting married & honeymooning off the coast of Cancun at Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeres. It’s a smaller all-inclusive (less than 200 rooms) on Isla Mujeres (5 mile long island about 20 minutes off the coast of Cancun), We chose it because the island is very safe so we could wander around without being uncomfortable, it’s also a small fishing/tourist town so not really a Cancun vibe- more laid-back carefree. My mom was considering coming but ended up unable to make it, but she was going to fly from ATL and the flight was under $300, direct. The hotel is not adults-only but it’s not really kid-friendly either (no activities, kids club, kids food, nothing but the pool & beach). But there is an activities rental hut next door so we can find plenty to do. My mom was looking at about $1,000 for 4 days at the hotel with her flight. They have some great deals on their website sometimes & even have the option of doing a partial all-inclusive where you just get breakfast included and the rest of the meals are on your own…. The Island has tons to do- sea turtle park, dolphin park, nurse shark park, lots of diving & snorkeling, ruins, tons of local good fresh food, and TONS of boats! Sorry, I got super excited there- we are leaving in about 2 weeks & I can’t wait!!!
