First time poster, long time lurker here on the Bee boards.
My fiancé and I got engaged in June and are looking for a spring 2014 wedding. We’re new to this area (just moved here last August) and although I’m really excited to plan a wedding out in sunny California, I’m having trouble finding a venue that fits our budget.
100 people maximum
Would like to have ceromony and reception in same place
Outside catering and BYOB allowed
Budget for venue is $2000; total budget is $5,000
Is this totally unreasonable out here? Forgive me for my ignorance, we’re simple folks from the Midwest 😉

@Miss_Bee_Sting: I wish I could *definitely* say that you could do it on that budget, but as someone who has been trying to work a similar wedding with a low budget, that’s going to be quite difficult!
I recommend that you look in to the Torrance Woman’s Club. That’s where FI and I decided to have the wedding with the idea of elegant, easy, but affordable! They have their own caterer, but you provide the alcohol, so that’s a compromise. Also, there aren’t many choices for food, but from what I’ve read they have yummy goods! However, it will fall closer to your total budget than just your venue budget.
We also looked at The Wilson Harding Clubhouse, but it was further away from his family than we wanted to be: http://www.montereyconcessions.net/theclubhouse/clubhouse.html The prices seemed great, though I don’t how much they charge for bar services.
I hope that helps. Please don’t hesitate to message me if you have any other questions. I’m not as familiar with places as other LA-area Bees, but I’ve done so much research the past few months (knew ahead of time about the proposal, heh) that I can give you some information.
Cheers and good luck!

@HisMoon: Thanks! I had a feeling it wouldn’t be easy to have a low budget wedding in the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas. But hey! A girl can try 🙂

I helped 2 friends last year plan weddings and we had them at parks with rec rooms. They charged us $400 and $500 respectively. Outside catering allowed.
