Buffalo Bride here :)
If you're looking for somewhere to get a wedding cake I've heard great things about Muscoreils, Ohlsons, Dessert Deli, and Zilli Cakes! Ohlsons probably is the most reasonabley priced out of the bunch!
Good luck!
Hi!
I LOVE LOVE desserts from Butterwoods but I know they can get pretty pricey.
Zillycakes for something edgy and out of the box.
Village Desserts on Main in Snyder has great pastries and are very reasonable.
I've heard good things about Ohlson's Bakery on Sheridan in Williamsville.
Sweet Nothings in Tonawanda has decent desserts as well cheap.
I know people who have used Studio E in Williamsville for updos and like them. I've gotten my hair cut there twice and I like them.
Definitely no on Excuria Salon for makeup and hair. My friend used them for her short ceremony and they overdid her makeup and her hair. She basically redid everything herself. Although I highly recommend them for a girl's spa day! :)
Another idea might be Salon Professional Academy on Eggert near the Boulevard. I tried them for a haircut for the first time this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised! $16 w/$5 tip to get my haircut!! Allot for extra time...it took 2 hrs to get my haircut. :)
Good Luck!
Hi you August Buffalo Brides! I got married last August in Orchard Park. I'm so glad all that wedding stuff is behind me!
I got my cake and a surprise Groom's cake from Ohlson's. They both turned out amazing, and I do think the prices are good there. They definitely undercharged me for the amazing Groom's cake they made. My shower cake was from Butterwood's, and that was also really good, but when I tried to contact them for my wedding cake, they never got back to me. That wasn't the type of service I wanted on my wedding day. However, my brother got his wedding cake there. It was so delicious and they didn't seem to have any problems with them.
I had my regular hairdresser and one of her co-workers come out and do hair at my mom's house. I actually wish I'd gone with someoene else. She kept telling me she couldn't do what I was asking for during our trial run, and it had to do with texture not the lenght of my hair or anything. I think someone else would have done what I had asked for. Another one of their co-workers came and did our make-up. I thought she did a great job, so if you want her name, I can give that to you. It was really nice and relxing to have all the girls hanging out at my parents house while getting ready rather than having to shuttle everyone around in the morning to get ready.
If you have any other questions, let me know! Good luck!
Spa at Falling Waters does a nice spa day & it's right in Orchard Park. We went with a wonderful out of town photogrpaher.....http://www.mailelaniphotography.com/blog/. She doesn't charge extra for Buffalo weddings & her stuff is AMAZING!! Cakes...they are all good, but I would highly reccomend Muscoreils. Their almond cake is crazy good. They are a little expensive, but only like a $100 more for a good sized cake, but I think you'll find it's worth it!! Flowers - went with the trusty Moreen's. The price is pretty fair....we'll see how it comes out next summer. But I've heard all great stuff!!
Good luck! We are a few weeks ahead of you!! It seems to come quicker ever month!
DO NOT USE STARELITE PRODUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pleas read so this doesn't happen to you!!!!
I got married back in June and starlite productions did my wedding video. I picked them because them seemed nice and easy to work with and i liked the samples on their website. They told me it would take 6 months to get the video back so that would be Dec 25th. I wanted to arrange for pick up of the DVD while i was home for Christmas and I have been calling and leaving messages for 3 weeks now and they have not returned any calls or e-mails. I filed a complaint with the better buisness bureau aqnd they did not even respond to them! Do not book this company I am out a good amount of money and even more than that it doesn't look like I will get my video and that is priceless.
on a better note i loved my hair and my girls loved theirs too and I got it done at BLU in OP ask for ann she is the best!!!!!!!
So I now have pretty much everything done. Except I need to find somebody to put a bustle in my dress. I bought it from David's Bridal but their alteration prices are ridiculous. Anybody have any recommendations?
Also, I need 5 more Tolsby frames from Ikea, I know the closest one isn't exactly "close" and they arent available online. If anybody has these please let me know.
@LzsMrs: We are going with Muscoreils bakery, a few friends of mine used them for their weddings. They are absolutely delicious!!! Another place that is good is Dessert Deli!
Has anyone every used Chaybans Tailoring or know if they do bustles on wedding dresses? There's one kinda close to my house so I was considering using them if they are good.
@LzsMrs: Our ceremony and reception will be at avanti too! let me know how it goes! I have not actually started planning decor with them yet because we have a ways to go but I have heard good and bad about their response time and such. Sorry I can help with the bustle question, my dress hasnt even come in yet. :)
@FiFiKib: I don't mean to sound like the bearer of bad news, but I have heard really bad things about Avanti. My mom's best friends daughter got married there, and I guess that they were so rude and unproffessional (the staff). I also heard similar horror stories from a co worker.
Although I sincerely hope that both of those weddings were the exception, and that yours goes flawlessly.
@nutMeg13: oh no! anything in particular I should look out for? thanks for the heads up and I hope so too :-/
Well, I guess that they were extremely rude to the brides mom (her real mom, divorced family - becuase when she came in she wasn't ready yet and therefore was dressed in casual clothes). Also, when there were problems (they didn't refridgerate the cake, this was a super hot day in august, and it melted and had to be thrown out. This cake was also made by the bride's brother, and they also threw out the forms for the cake), they took took these issues straight to the bride on her big day, instead of to her mother or maid of honor. I forgot what my coworker said, but he basically said that his friends got ripped off - like Avanti added a $10,000 fee at the last minute, and would cancel the wedding if they didn't pay.
I truely and sincerely hope that you have a far better experiebnce than anyone that I know who has gone there. At least it is very beautifuL!
@FifiKib We have had nothing but pleasant experiences as of yet. My friend got married there the summer before last and had no problems! I am dealing mainly with my wedding planner (Angie) who is awesome and always replies to any of my questions within 24 hours. We are already all set with all the planning there and the wedding is still 6 months away. After all is said and done, every bride has different experiences and that goes for pretty much any venue.
@LzsMrs: thats great to here! My coordinator is Cheryl and I still have a little ways to go before my wedding but I hope that my planning goes as smoothly as yours! thanks for the feedback

Ok so my wedding is August 31, 2012 which I know is still a while away but I am trying to get as much done as I can early to prevent overstressing (which I think is inevitable anyways). We are having the ceremony and reception at the Avanti Mansion so that takes care of a lot but I am still looking for somebody to do the cake. Also I have no clue where to get my hair done! ( I usually just go to Bangs ).
