We are having a buffet reception...would it be ok to have the caterer serve the salad (with a premixed dressing) maybe during the cocktail hour?  The guests would be called to their seats before the entrance of the bridal party and then everyone could start with their salads, before being called to the buffet table.  I thought this way, guests would not have to balance two plates (salad and dinner) when walking through the buffet line....  any suggestions or ideas on this one?!

I think that would work - I definitely agree that it'd be nice to have something to snack on during cocktail hour, and then not have to worry about carrying two plates!

that sounds like a FANTASTIC idea to me. I always hate balancing two plates. and you can guarantee that all eyes will be on you instead of them spread out throughout the room talking to each other!

i would do that, but also put the salad on the buffet if you do not have any other vegetarian options.   that way if someone is veg they can get more.

We are doing a pre-set salad too.  We're having a buffet reception with a HUGE guest list, and thought it would be nice to have something on the table.  We're doing the dressing in seperate containers on the table so that the salads don't become soggy.

That's a great idea! I can't stand it when my salad touches my regular food... lol

that's a fantastic idea; all of the weddings that i've been to with a buffet-style dinner had salad on the buffet line, which held up the lines and made it difficult to handle the multiple plates!

I agree that it's a good idea.  It also allows guests to begin eating while they are waiting for their turn to go up to the buffet.

I think its a neat idea but not really sure if I would get a full salad from the buffet during the cocktail hour.

I like the idea of preplated salads at the tables with dressing on the side.

I think it's a great idea, a good way to make the transition from cocktail hour to dinner and definitely easier for your guests.

I wouldn't do during the cocktail hour but have it served as soon as everyone sits down at the beginning of dinner. From what I have seen of alot of catering menus online is that many of them have a served salad while the rest of dinner is a buffet. It doesn't seem that strange.
