I need your help. I am getting married in a little less than a month and I have to have our final menu selections by Wednesday and I just can’t decide what to do so I am going to make a poll. Please vote for what meal YOU WOULD PREFER IF YOU WERE GOING TO A WEDDING ON A SATURDAY EVENING AT 6PM.We have a guest list of about 70.Buffet style is good because everyone is guaranteed to get the same meal but its a bit boring, the finger food has a big variety, but everyone would only get one or 2 pieces of each.
Here are the different menus:
Pepper crusted round of beef-40 servings (we have had 2x as many people request turkey, this is an accurate amount)
Herb Roasted Turkey Breast-60 servings
Veggie platter-50 servings
Fruit tray-50 servings
Bacon wrapped scallops-72 servings
Deviled eggs-72 servings
Bread and cheese and cracker trays-100 servings
Vegetable spring rolls-72 servings
Prawn cocktail-60 servings
Black Forest Ham and Dill Pinwheels -72 servings
Pepper crusted beef or Herb Roasted Turkey
yukon gold mashed potatoes
garlic green beans
mixed salad and rolls
While the buffet style will get everyone fed, its nothing special and it just another wedding meal. The finger foods is a gamble because what if people at the front of the line take all the food before people in the back get anything. There is always to option of losing one or two of the finger foods and spreading that money out and buying more of the other finger foods.
As you can see, I am lost and I need some help

While I usually prefer the buffet style because there is a variety of foods and you can choose to eat what you want, yours doesn’t really offer any variety. :-/ That’s why I vote finger food.

Finger food! Cocktail hour always has the better food, at every wedding i’ve ever gone to!

At that time on a Saturday as a guest I would be thinking a sit down meal (unless otherwise noted). I don’t think the finger foods would be enough to fill someone up if they were one of the last to go through. That is why I voted for buffet.
Although if you go with finger foods you do have good variety, I would just always end up over ordering if I did this because I would want to make sure nobody was left hungry.

Finger foods, as long as there is enough that people can make a meal out of it, are great!

I voted finger foods for yours, but if you do that, you need to order waaaayyy more than what you have planned. People are going to eat more than one or two pieces each, I guarantee it.

I’m a little confused… is this for cocktail hour, or dinnner? I went to a finger food only wedding and the food never made it to us, it would all get gobbled up by others before the waitress could make her way around the room and we ended up getting take-out on the way home, it wasn’t very fun.
If you’re talking about cocktail hour, I vote finger food.
If you’re talking about dinner, I vote buffet.

I think you should go with finger food, but you need to let people know there won’t be a full meal. Maybe just spread it by word of mouth? I would be upset if I was expecting a buffet dinner and it seemed like there were only appetizers. That way people can be prepared–either by eating before they come or just knowing they should chow down on the food you do have.

I like the finger food idea, but think you need more servings.

If I were going to a wedding on a Saturday night at 6 pm I would need more than finger food otherwise I’d leave by 8 pm to go get something to eat.

The finger food menu doesn’t have enoug servings to feed you guests – you know that there’s 1 or 2 per person, but the guests don’t, so if someone wants to eat 6 of one thing then that means there’s fewer servings of that for everyone else. The buffet would give me more peace of mind, just knowing that everyone is guaranteed a plate of food.

I am wanting to do the buffet dinner, but my Fiance and mother keep going back to these finger foods. I am really doing this to show them that the finger foods is a horrible idea. I also forgot to add that buffet style has fruit and veggie trays and a dessert tray.

In terms of what I would prefer to eat, definitely the finger foods. I love finger foods and usually feel like I end up eating more when it’s that type of food than seated or buffet (but this is reason to have more than enough because people like to sample and may eat more than normal when there are lots of options). Having enough food trumps having the most desirable type of food. So if there’s any question that there won’t be (more than) enough finger food for everyone, do the buffet.

I voted buffet – I went to a wedding where they only served finger food and by 9pm that night people were saying that they were hungry. Some ended up leaving early to get something to eat.

The finger foods sound delicious!
