So, in my state there was a big news story about a girl being nominated for homecoming court as a joke by some kids at her school. The media picked up the story and the girl ended up getting a day of glamour out of the whole thing (which I thought was really neat).
It was being talked about at work a couple weeks ago and apparently someone I work with, their child goes to the same school district. I made a comment about how I was happy that the girl still attended all the festivities even under the circumstances and that she didn’t let the people picking on her keep her from enjoying her time.
The person I work with started saying all these horrible things about the girl! A girl. This is a grown adult saying these terrible things about a child. No wonders bullying is so prevelant among children, adults are doing it to.
Now, I don’t know the girl or anything about her. Perhaps the awful things he was saying were true. But does that really make her any less worthy of being treated like a princess for the day? No, I think not. This is a girl who obviously may be suffering from self-asteem issues and if these people nominated her as a joke, I would be embarrased too.
Really didn’t have any point to my post. It had just been bothering me for a while now and I felt that this was the place I could share my frustrations.
