I’m not a flower-lover. I don’t like roses, gerber daisies, calla lilys, or carnations…
The one flower I adore, is the Lilac.
Out here in CA, they show up around March and April… but I’m having my wedding in NY, so I figured “they should be blooming in NY around May, right?” ….wrong.
My florist said they don’t get lilacs until the end of JUNE. And he said there’s no way they could even have them shipped in (not that I would pay such a premium, but I *did* ask, just out of curiosity).
I’m bummed. Literally the only flower I truly enjoy, and it will be no where at my wedding.
I know it’s such a little thing… I’m not stompy-angry about it, but I do feel a bit of sadness. We don’t have a big budget, and every thing we’re spending any amount of $$ on, I wanted to feel like it was “worth it.”
So to you ladies who are having lilacs at your wedding, I’m super jealous!! Please enjoy them extra for me 🙂

@LadyMoriarty: Sorry….I feel your pain! I got maried in St Thomas in October and there was no way to get peonies which was the one flower I wanted!
Have you thought about real touch flowers…..I know its not the same as real but its the closet you can get to it! Maybe you could incorporate a few real touch lilacs tht way!

@LadyMoriarty: This is a quote from an article about the Lilac Festival (held in Rochester NY):
The annual Lilac Festival, which is held in Highland Park (Rochester, NY), runs for the 10 days that include the second and third weekend in May. The middle of May can bring questionable weather, but the lilacs are usually at their peak during this two week period.
Next year’s festival is scheduled May 9-14, 2014.
I would ask around a bit more, or contact some lilac growers directly.

My grandmother LOVES lilacs, and her birthday is at the end of April. We always manage to find her a sprig of lilac every single year. It may not be the cheapest or the prettiest lilac but it still has that smell. I think it’ will be very possible to find some.
We we live in NYC by the way.

I agree … I feel like mid-May to early June is usally lilac time — they are also a favorite of mine (and I am not above sneaking around my neighbors houses with some sisscors!)
