Hi!  I have tiny bumps over my cheeks and forehead which I can only guess as blocked pores.  I cleanse my face in the morning, remove my make up as soon as I'm home and wash my face before going to bed, nothing is shifting them!  To get into (maybe some would say too much) detail, when I succumb to temptation and try to squeeze one out, the excess is pure white and stringy and not a runny puss.  They are really obvious bumps and never dissappear, and even more so with make-up so I really would like some tips on how to get smooth-bump free skin.  (I do have sensitive skin as well - oh the joys!!)  Please help!

It sounds to me like you might have rosacea.  I would talk to a doctor about the bumps to see if they can treat them.

I had the bumps on my forehead, and a problem with black heads as well. I have combination skin (dry/oily) plus its sensitive as well. It is almost completely cleared up, and I have been using The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Foaming face wash once a day. Have you tried any of their products? I love their stuff!

@MissAsB: I don't think its rosacea because she's getting gunk out of the bumps. It does sound like clogged pores to me

OP, I also wanted to add that I don't wear makeup. Maybe you can get by without any foundation or anything on your skin for now, and just wear eye makeup

Maybe a really good facial!! I use to have that problem! But I started using the philosophy purity face wash, exfoliator, and hope in a jar moisturizer! I still have reoccuring issues with the white silly strings that come out of my face lol (when squeezed at) but I notice that happens when the weather changes or I'm having a stressful week. Don't overkill on cleaning your face, it'll go away! Oh and after I stopped piling on makeup, my skin got tremendously better

Exfoliating face cleanser is what fixed the problem (mostly) for me.  I also use Clinique moisturizer every night, and that has helped my skin a LOT.

I started getting really bad acne and clogged pores a few months ago so I started using the Burt's Bee's acne care line (cleanser, toner and spot treatment) it has salicylic acid which is good for clearing out pores and reducing any redness from acne.

    Good luck!

I am a picker.  I have one of those zit-sticks that I use to get as much gunk out of my nose/pores as possible, and then I exfoliate.  It usually helps in smoothing out my skin, though occasionally a pore will get angry about being molested.

I've used Biore strips, I've got that Olay brush, and I don't wear makeup in the first place.  I wash my face twice a day, and exfoliate in the mornings.

The only thing that seems to get them gone for me is doing it manually.

This was a huge problem for me for a few years.

I finally got rid of it by exfoiliating with a good exfoiliating cloth in the shower, so every other day. And using tea tree oil with my toner before putting lotion on.

I am now all clear of the bumps and I rarely get them any more!

When My acne got bad, I had a 10% TCA chemical peel and it worked wonders for me...Its only like $600-$2,000 depending on where you live, but if you can't afford to get them every few weeks then you can buy the stuff from the seller Bettercomplexions on Ebay and mix it yourself and you will have the same results. She sells two bottles for $19.99. GOOD LUCK!

I have these, too.  My dermo told me it was rosacea, but I think it was misdiagnosed. I actually think I am allergic to gluten and cetyl whatever alcohol.  When I cut both out and went paleo/primal in my eating, it all disappeared.  It could be I have it, but cuting out sugar and insulin provoking food clears it up.

I started washing with  unscented dr bronners on my face and moisturizing with hemp oil and it all went away. I use the oil cleansing method on days I don't wear makeup and skip the bronners.

Some people think that rosacea is related to a B vitamin deficiency, and hemp oil is high in B vitamins.  Who knows.

You can get hemp oil in the refridgerated section of a health food store.  It goes rancid fast so keep it in the fridge.  It is green and can stain white clothes/washclothes, though I have never had a problem.  I put the oil on then wipe it off with a dry dark washcloth.  the hemp oil really clears up blackheads.

You can also try jajoba oil.  That is what I used for a long time before switching to hemp.

If you need a stronger moisturizer, I have also been able to use toleraine by la roche posay, but it is not as good as the plain oil.  You can PM me if you want.

Well I have now had 2 days without makeup, people are telling me I look younger - so that is good. I'll be stopping off in the Body Shop - I like their things to be fair.  I use a natural olive oil soap bar on my face for a while now on recommendation from the pharmacist - this cleared a lot of spots, but the little bumps grrrrr.  Lots of useful advice here - will look inot them and give them a shot!

That my friend is called white/black heads. They wont go away until you extract them. My suggestion to you is to get a facial so they can extract them out for you, and then purchase a Clarisonic. Clarisonic is a facial cleansing tool that cleans your face 6 times better than washing them with your hands.

I have recently purchased one (with a deep pore cleansing brush) and I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT! This thing is amazing! Not only does it brings white/black heads up to the surface from deep within, but it makes my face/skin so soft! My FI cannot stop kissing my cheeks!

I use to never allow my FI to kiss me anywhere on my face besides my lips, because I was afraid to get pimples etc, but not anymore!

Trust me, its great, and you can get it on amazon for $100-$200 depending on which one you purchase. I got the Clarisonic Pro for $189! (which I would recommend since its cordless and you can use it for the body as well)

No more spending $$$ on facials, because this thing helps me maintain my skin so well, its seriously my life savor.

@justelope: Same! A Paleo diet cleared up my skin about 80%...but I still had those bumps (comedones?)...on my forehead especially.

NOTHING was helping me (and I'm 42) until I went to a Norwex party and bought their make-up removal cloths. They are made up of super-fine micro-fibre and are AMAZING AMAZING. My skin is now smooth with no bumps for the first time in my adult life.

Sounds like good old-fashioned milia (whiteheads). If u have coverage, go to the dermatologist & get an Rx for a retinoid to remove the blockage from the pores. Follow with OTC salicylic acid and they will shrink/smooth out. If u have dry or very sensitive skin and are exfoliating use a very gentle method as harsh ones can cause micro tears in skin's surface and introduce bacteria and cause acne or inflammation. Do NOT use an apricot scrub the particlates are too jagged and large. Try light alpha hydroxy acid based products and fine particulate scrubs designed specifically for the face.
Moisturizer should be oil free, and if u wear makeup with sunscreen in it, consider a temp switch to a mineral makeup which will provide physical sunblock. Many ppl break out bc of chemical sunblocks.

I highly recommend looking into using a Retinol gel (or cream if your skin gets sensitive). I had similar issues on my chin and cheeks until using Retin-A gel. While it takes up to six months for obvious results it is in fact working. You can buy it over the counter or get a perscription (Kaiser?) and get it much cheaper.

The retinol clears pores and refreshing your skin and tone making your skin clearer and brighter without as many break outs and clogged pores.

Well the skin is looking a million times better!!!  I went to see a dermatologist here who prefers more natural remedies.  I have been washing morning and evening with cold water and a soap bar made of olive oil (much gentler), then I have been applying a tiny amount of tea tree oil on any spots and bumps, a few minutes after (not straight away because the skin is still fresh from washing), finally I have been moisturising with a light moisturiser in the monring and bio-oil in the evening to get rid of the scaring that was being caused by SOMEONE over-picking the spots (I guess that's me!!).  I have been gently applying pressure on the bigger bums with a cotton bud dipped in tea tree oil (I was told to apply a little pressure in a rolling motion to tease it out - if it comes it comes - if it doesn't it obviously isn't ready).  So one month to go and i'm looking better!! yey! (P.s.  the bio oil has made some difference to my crows legs as well!)
