i saw burlap on a blogged wedding. greenweddingshoes? maybe. And I loved how it look. they0 kept it simple a clean. not a ton of flowers. it looked modern and cool. I love this idea. I would love to hear o=how they worked out for you.
My aunt made my burlap table runners for me. We bought a bolt of fabric at Joann's Fabrics, and cut them down to size ourselves. If you stitch along the edges, they're not going to shed.
One other thing, it took about 3 hours to do 14 runners, so it's definitely do-able in terms of time and effort.

I love them! I read they are itchy and can shed. I figured that guests aren't using them as blankets, so it's not really a big deal. I dont know though. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Any advice or experiences with burlap tableclothes?
