Are you particularly busty? The only time my upper back has hurt like you described is when I changed from the wrong bra size to the correct one and my muscles had to build up to support my bust. I’ll still get it sometimes if I’m standing or sitting upright for a long time because, let’s face it, my boobs are heavy.

BTW are you sure you are wearing the correct bra size? It can make a big difference in your comfort.

Could be a muscle spasm, or a sprain/strain. If it doesn’t respond to ice/heat or OTC meds or gets worse you might want to check with your doctor.

It sounds like a muscle spasm, or maybe you pulled a muscle in your back? Did you make a sudden movement or do something you don’t do often?

If you have a bath tub at your place take a long, hot bath to help you relax your muscles. If it’s nothing serious, it should make you feel a lot better.

@MrsGatito:  Does it feel skin-deep, like muscles, or does it feel like it could be deeper? I have athsma and when my lungs are angry it’s a burning/itching feeling between my shoulder blades. It took me a long time to figure out that it wasnt my muscles, and was actaully my lungs causing that sensation. I have a friend who went to the doctor because of persistent back pain, same as yours (worse when moving) and her doctor said she had phenemonia! If you dont remember actually hurting yourself, I highly recommend going to the doctor. A quick visit will tell you if its something to worry about or not!

I suggest upper cervical chiropractic.

@MrsGatito:  Does it radiate into your arms at all, especially when you lift them? A burning sensation often goes along with a nerve injury.

@MrsGatito:  Have you noticed a rash or anything on your back? The superficial burning almost sounds like shingles.

Sounds a lot like when I strained my neck… I think you should see your Doctor.

@MrsGatito:  I’m going to second daisyfae and PermaStudent that sounds like a nerve thing to me. I pinched a nerve in my lower back a few years ago; nerve pain is the worst. I think you should see your doctor too.
