Trial runs could be your best friend! Look to see if you can find a couple of people with a portfolio that fits your style. If the trials turn out bad, then maybe do it yourself--your photographer could get some great getting ready shots of that! :)
I usually don't like it when others do my makeup- so if I were you I'd definitely do it myself, just to make sure you love it. That way, you have plenty of time to play around with different looks to see what you do/don't like.
I'm jealous...I would love to do my own makeup rather than go to someone else!! You shouldn't be upset about doing it, after all you do save money and you don't have to worry about others mistakes!! It would also probably save you time, too! Not too mention great "getting ready" photos!!
I still have no idea what I'm going to do about my makeup, I never ever wear it and have no idea even where to start. I think I'm going to hit the Sephora counter and see what I can come up with. If I were you, I would just do my own makeup. I dont' wear it at all and am hoping to do my own!
I plan to do my own make-up for the same reason, I just never completely happy when I have it done. If I lived in the same place I am getting married, I'd go the trial route.
But if I were you, I think I'd do it myself.
Doing your own make up would certainly save you some money and possibly some time. I would look around to see if you can find a make up artist that you do like and won't have to correct. If you can't, just do it yourself and you'll look fab!
Oh honey! I would LOVE to be in your shoes. Do it yourself. If I even had the slightest clue about makeup, I'd do it myself. I just don't wear the stuff! I don't even own any, so DIY is out of the question for me. You'll be happier and more relaxed if you can just do it yourself. (:
do it yourself. i paid for a makeup trial and it turned out terribly. i'm going to do my own makeup now and i'm not even an artist. if you do makeup for a living just do it yourself for the wedding. you will know your face and skin type more than anyone else.
I hear ya!! I'm considering doing my own makeup even though I've been out of that biz for years. It's hard to jusitify the prices thay charge where I'm getting married. $150-$175 + trial fee of $50-$100. It's insane. I could upgrade to chivari chairs for that! I think I might have go to Sephora or Nordstrom a couple of times and then reconsider the options. I really wanted airbrush makeup, but....
the other night at Ulta, I got into a convo w/ a makeup artist and she offered to do my makeup at a much reduced rate and then I started looking at her. She had dark lipliner and painted on eyebrows - black! and her hair was 3 completely different colors and 3 completely different layers. Why would I let this person do my makeup on my wedding day?
I wish I had this problem. I'm so clueless when it comes to makeup and wish I could do it myself.
Try trial runs and if those still fail you, DIY. Save tons of money and have control over your look.
Do it yourself! The only reasons for hiring someone are (a) because they are better at application than you or (b) to be pampered. Certainly though you will be great at putting on your own makeup. DIY and spend that money somewhere else!
I didn't like either of my trials from 2 different people, so I'm doing mine myself as well.
I don't think you'll regret it, just leave yourself plenty of time.
Thanks everyone! I think I will do it myself.
All my friends and family are already telling me to do it myself because I've done such a great job on weddings before. So I guess it would be very beneficial. I just lose the pamper factor. OH WELL. I'd rather be pleased with the results. :)
If you feel you can do your make-up better than others can, then why not do it yourself? You'll save a fortune (you probably know that already), and you'll feel confident in your appearance.
I plan on doing my own make-up, but that's largely because I'm extremely allergic to most cosmetics, and there's no sense in my paying someone to do my make-up with my own make-up. So, bingo. I save some money and I look the way I want to look.
Plus, I'm a bit neurotic, and I would be too afraid that those make-up brushes have touched other people's faces.
Another vote for DIY! If you have the skills, use them! I WISH I were able to, I can do my basic "work face" and that is about it.
I'm doing it myself and I'm not a pro. You're in even better position than most brides considering you have all of the tools and make-up already. I just spent $100 on three products yesterday at Sephora, so definitely a little jealous :)
You'd save a bunch of money doing it by yourself as well as having it done the way YOU want it.
Do it yourself! Totally. I would if I had that talent! YOU know what your makeup should look like on that day, and you'll end up fixing it even if you get someone to do it.

Hey bees, just looking for some feedback on this topic.
I am a makeup artist. I'e had my makeup done by other makeup artist and always end up fixing it myself afterwards.
Now I'm getting married next year, and I hate the idea of having to do my own makeup on my weddiing day but it may be the only logical thing!?... I dont know, what do you ladies think?
