I really would love to find a way to incorporate Butterflies (not the living creatures) in my wedding...if it helps out colors are purple and green and the atmosphere is very informal!

    Thanks in advance Laughing

So cute...just make sure it's not overdone then personally it'll feel tacky, but that's just my opinion..

    I like bvig's centerpiece..that's nice!

You can also include them on your invitations or STD if you haven't made them yet.  How about one in your hair? Like it was mentioend, overboard might bee a bit too much (will look princessy/young). But a few of them here and there would be nice

Well, if you DO want living creatures, you can do a butterfly release, like we did, if you live in an area warm enough to release live butterflies in April.

There are several invitations available that have butterflies on them.  I got my invitations on eBay, and although our theme was double hearts, I know many of the printers had butterflies available, too, (most can print them in colors of your choosing).  I know you said reception, but in case you don't have your invitations picked out yet.

Before we decided to go with the double hearts, I thought about doing butterflies, myself.  I bought some white butterfly Christmas ornaments after Christmas.  They don't look like Christmas ornaments, so our plan was to put them in rented trees.  We ended up not using them, (we probably still would have, but trees were more spendy than we thought!), but I thought they would have been pretty.

You could have them incorporated into the cake somehow.  Well, ON the cake sounds better, (into makes it sound like you're baking the butterflies in the cake batter!  EW!).  As a topper or other decoration...someone posted a cake with dragonflies on it that was neat.

Hope you get lots of neat ideas!!!!

@Miss Apricot: Great Idea!! That would be beautiful for you to do, esp since you said butterflys are important to you & your FI. And, I found this picture that is SO PRETTY!

I think as long as you dont go overboard it will be nice... i love butterflies too so i plan to tuck maybe one little purple one into my bouqet and perhaps a little purple  butterfly on each of the table arrangments... and i was thinking of hanging a few from fishing line in the trees or from the tent

We're using table number holders that have butterflies on them and our tall centerpieces will have branches that come out of the flowers and will have butterflies attachted to them.

Michael's has some really cool glitter butterfly peices.  We placed them on our guest book table and through out places in our reception.  Butterflies are very significant to us because my husband lost his younger brother 1 1/2 years ago so we wanted to incorporate butterflies because we released butterflies at his funeral.

For those interested in butterfly releases, the company we chose was Swallowtail Farms (www.swallowtailfarms.com).  They were awesome to deal with, and the butterflies arrives right on time the day before the weddding.  There were clear instructions on how to care for them, and how to transfer them from their shipping envelopes to the release container, etc.  They also sell a lot of butterfly themed products, so even if you don't do a release, check out their site to see what they sell as far as decorations/favors/etc.  As a plus, they were the cheapest place I found that sells monarch butterflies (as opposed to painted ladies, which are cheaper, but not nearly as "purdy")!

I used dragonflies is different places.  They were on our cake, in my hair, in my daughter's hair, on the BM's necklaces.
Can't see them very well on the cake...

One thing to consider with butterfly releases is they do not always go as planned. You think of a butterfly release as opening a box and them flying away, It doesnt always happen like that. I went to a wedding before where they did one and the butterflies did not fly away. They landed on the ground and people had to be careful where they were stepping, and they landed all over everyone. My wedding planner also told us a horror story about one. Im sure they have worked for some, but just keep in mind they are not always so smooth.
