I am six months or about three weeks away from the third trimester. I have been wearing my pre-pregnancy bras, but think it's time I buy either maternity or nursing bras due a little to size and some to leaking. I was thinking I might be better off buying nursing bras with the hopes of using them later, but it's also possible they won't fit during nursing. I have not grown much and am no sure what I can expect in the future.

Also are there recommendations on what types to bra? Thanks!

I wouldn't buy a nursing bra now.  Even though you've experienced growth so far, you're bound to be a different size when your milk comes in.  You could get a bigger sized bra and put nursing pads in to catch the leaking (there are disposable and re-usable ones).  I'm just a few weeks away from delivery, and I plan on buying nursing bras as soon as I get back from the hospital.

It is smart to buy one or 2 nursing bras before the baby is born, make sure they are a little roomy for your pregnancy breast size, but don't go crazy buying nursing bras until a FEW WEEKS after the baby is born. It can take about 28 days (give or take) for your milk supply to fully establish itself, and for your breast size to stabilize!

Target has some affordable, nice ones. I bought two more when I was 6 months along b/c I grew out of my 4 month bra. I plan to get a really nice one right around (after) delivery time.

Don't waste your money now... I swear you can't even imagine how big your boobs will get.  I gave birth on 10.26.10 and the nursing tanks I bought 2 weeks before delivery are currently WAY too small - I had to send my mom out to get me a few in a bigger size.

Plus, you still have a full trimester to go - nursing bras should be wireless; do you really want to wear wireless bras for another 3 months?  I just got 2 cheap (yet supportive) at Kohls during a sale to wear in my last trimester, and that did the trick.  Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I would buy a nursing bra now. They are alot more comfy than normal bras and with leakage you can easily fit a breast pad in them. A good nursing bra has quite a bit of give in it so as you keep growing it will still fit you for a while. When your milk comes in it will a few days after bub is born. So if you buy a nursing bra now I would think that it would fit you until bub is born and through your hospital stay. Then when you get home I would go and get resized. So I was an A cup before bub, during pregnancy (after about 6 mnths) and during my hospital stay I was a B cup, then after I got home from hospital I got resized and was a C cup and have stayed that since then. I hope my long reply helps!

I'm a maternity bra fitter (yes really haha! it's my part time job whilst studying) and you should buy a non-underwired, maternity bra as soon as you notice a difference in your breasts. You definitely shouldn'y be wearing underwire... it can block the priduction of the milk ducts! Some people will tell you they wore underwire with no problems but it is an increased risk so I wouldn't want to risk it.

You can buy maternity bras that have the clips so that they can be used as nursing bras later... as PP have said, your boobs will get A LOT bigger when your milk comes in so yoiu probably won't use these bras as nursing bras later but sometimes people's breasts get smaller as they settle down into breast feeding so you may get a double use out of them.

We recommend you get fitted for your final nursing bra at 38 weeks... as ktdid23 said, your milk will probably not have come in by that point but we say 38 weeks so that you are as close as possible to your due date without risking coming in to be fitted whilst you are in labour!!! Basically go at 38 weeks, get fitted and buy 1 or 2 bras so that you have something to wear when the baby comes, and if you have a chance, go in again closer to your due date/when the baby is born to be fitted for the size you are when your milk has come in.
