Buy shoes before the dress?

I think unless you’ve had a shoe you’ve been in love with for forever and know that’s what you want I’d do it the other way.

I wouldn’t, unless you are so in love with a shoe that you will pick a dress to go with it. The shoes I bought before I got my dress (which I ended up returning because they weren’t comfortable anyways) wouldn’t have gone very well with it.

It doesn’t really matter that much because obviously when you get your dress, you will have it hemmed to exact length. Wearing heels will make trying on dresses easier, though, because they’re quite long. I’m 5’6″, brought 3″ heels to wear when trying dresses on, and most of the dresses were just a tiny bit too long.

I bought both pair of shoes before i had a dress! haha however; you don’t really need to have the shoes when you’re trying on dresses.  You don’t really NEED to have the shoes you’re wearing until you go in for the dress fitting and take care of the hem.  🙂

I knew which shoes I wanted to buy… but I held off until I purchased the dress, just in case. What I did do, though, was take a pair of my 4″ heels with me when I went to try on dresses. I figured that I wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes higher than that for the wedding. And yes, after I bought the dress I bought the dream shoes.

I did! I fell in love with the shoes and then they seemed to disappear from online, I kept thinking about them and searching eBay with no luck… So it seemed like fate when they appeared on The Outnet at 50% off!

Here they are; YSL Palais! I figured they were classic enough to go with nearly anything, though ironically my dress is so big and long (pre-alterations) that I couldn’t see them underneath! haha!

I bought the shoes before the dress.  It’s not really a style of shoe that would have look off with any dress really.  I liked having my shoes to try on with the dresses, but I didn’t need to have them.  Most dresses were too short for me barefoot anyway so I always knew I needed to order extra length.

@inspiration86:  I knew I wanted blue shoes that would match any white/ivory dress I purchased. I ended up getting the shoes first:

I definitely bought my dress before I got my shoes. At the salon where I bought my dress no one was allowed to wear shoes past a certain point so that the dresses remained absolutely pristine. I doubt they would have let you wear shoes to try dresses on as they were very careful about their dresses.
