Buying a dress without trying it on!?

I bought a bunch of dresses online so that I could try them on and return the ones that didn’t work out. It’s not really the same situation you’re in though. I’d be really stressed about the losing weight if it were imperative for my dress to fit, which would probably lead to more eating…

I bought mine online through bridepower.com and I have no regrets. It was even better in person than I could ever imagine! It came in perfect condition, tags attached, all beading intact, etc. It’s beautiful, unique, and I have no regrets buying it without ever trying it on. When you know, you know! 🙂

Important note to add as well: I bought my dress in what I thought would be a size too small to fit me currently (motivation to lose weight) and it ended up zipping just fine, I do still plan to lsoe weight though and have it taken in. I had a good experience personally, but bridepower.com (Vows) has really excellent customer service in case I were to have any issues

If you’ve tried on dresses in that same shape/style,  you should be fine. I would make sure that you know how that shape of dress looks on you…but that’s all.

I ordered my dress without trying it on. No stores in my city stocked anything in tea length so I Had no choice. But one of my friends was married in it in a different colour so at least I knew someone who could tell me more info about it. She lives in a different city so sadly I couldn’t try it on. It comes in mid November and my wedding is in December so I have to make it work no matter what.

I bought my Vera without trying it on! I’m in Australia and have no idea about US sizing (let alone bridal sizing) but I was lucky enough to be able to try on a VW White dress beforehand – I think I’m a US street 4-6, I tried on a 4 in VW White and the dress I purchased was a VW size 8.

I found a really good deal on a Gemma in the US .. I was kind of blinded by the fact that it was Vera Wang and ordered it without even really thinking about the size, figuring I could always alter it if needed. It was quite a commitment considering the price of the dress plus the price of postage to AU but luckily it fits like a glove! I truly couldn’t be happier with my choice – the fabric is amazing and the dress is just beautiful.

Anyway, I say go for it! If it arrives and really isn’t right, you can always re-sell it 🙂

I got mine off Tradesy and it fit like a glove. I was nervous, but the only alteration I needed was the hem

I bought my dress on-line without trying it on. I went to get measured and then bought the size based on the measurements. The only alterations I needed were to have it shortened and to put in extra boning for my boobies.

That would make me nervous but it could work! Is there anywhere around you that you can just try it on before ordering online?

Thanks for posting this! I’ve recently come across this House of Mooshki dress and because all the stockists are in Europe and I am in the US, I’d have to order it sight unseen. Based on their site, they do a very thorough phone or video chat consult first because they are custom made but its still kind of unnerving. Especially since I want the skirt made longer and the neckline and back changed. lol!

Have you tried on dresses before at all? I tried on quite a few dresses at several places before deciding. There were many dresses I LOVED on the hangar but did not suit my body type. I ended up buying a dress off the rack (gasp) haha. It was half price but also about a half size too small. I told myself I could loose the weight but I didn’t. Luckily my alterations person was able to let it out a couple stiches!

If the dress is returnable then it cant hurt, but otherwise, you may have to just keep looking for that great deal with a guaranteed fit.
