I was so like you and itching to buy a house right after the wedding! We started looking about a year after, and it took us a bit of time to find our place. Once we settled, it was almost exactly 2 years after we had gotten married, and I am so loving the new house!
Just be patient! Get that down payment moving and you'll be there sooner than you know it!
@2peasinapod: thanks! We've already started saving, but we'd be making an out-of-state move to be closer to our parents, so we're probably looking at another 2-3 years, so I think that's why it's killing me. I'm being patient though!
I've wanted a house longer than I've wanted to be married! We actually just bought a house together about 2 months after we got engaged and 13 months before we'll be married. I LOVE it!!
This is funny, we waited about 2 weeks! We got married on January 16th, put in an offer on a house on Feb 3rd and we get the keys tomorrow! Its been a whirlwind to say the least. We can't wait to go on our honeymoon in September!
First, I'd like to say how much I love the term nesting. I especially love how the home section is under the nesting section - everytime I click it, it feels like I'm really starting to "nest".
I'm not married yet, but we found our first home and scheduled to move in June 15th. I still can't believe it - we were expecting to take much longer before we found our place. I was mentally preparing to have our first child in our apartment (well not in, it but us still living here).
We didn't have a timeline for home buying, but we do have a timeline for baby making! But we've been saving up for awhile, just in case. We came to the conclusion awhile ago that it doesn't matter where our first child is born, a baby won't know the difference anyway. But because of my age (turning 33 this year) we just need to get cracking!
2-3 years will fly by so quickly!
We aren't at a time or place where buying a house will be practical to us, but I want one too! I'd love for us to buy a little 2 bedroom but it's just not the right time for us. :(
I want a house so bad. I sold my condo before the wedding and we currently live in the condo my husband owned with his brother. They are under water and can't sell. At least his brother doesn't live with us. I want a house so bad. I would like to have a house before we have a baby and we're not getting any younger. I'm 36. Our current condo just doesn't feel like home.

How quickly do you want to buy a house after you're married? I've been ITCHING to buy a house and start nesting ever since we got back from our honeymoon, and the urge grows and grows every day! Things I never thought I'd be interested in like gardening are suddenly HUGE interests of mine.
It's so funny that we both feel like that now because the first few years of our relationship, we decided we wanted to be city people for a long time, and possibly raise our family in the city. Now that we've gotten married, we want to move back to the 'burbs and buy a house, even though we planned on renting for several years after the wedding (one of the reasons we splurged a bit on our wedding was because we weren't planning on saving for a down payment!). We don't in any way regret spending what we did, we're just so surprised that we had a change of heart so quickly!
For newly-married bees, did you want to start nesting right after the wedding, or have you already started? Do you have a timeline for saving for a house, and buying one?
