I found the ring of my dreams online for sale through a man whose relationship fell apart before he had the chance to propose to his girlfriend. The ring was never even worn!
My boyfriend bought the ring for $12,500 less than the guy paid. He bought it yesterday and I am SOOOOOO excited!
Just curious what all your thoughts are on buying a preowned ring?
I'm somewhat superstitious but I love jewelry but I would, depending on the story of the ring, if I knew it. I had my husband's great aunt's ring for the first 10 years of our marriage and they had a great marriage. I chose that ring, over his mom's, who was divorced, b/c I didn't want that energy. Yes, I know it sounds dumb but just how I am. :)
Your ring, to me, sounds like it wasn't meant to be for the original person but for you! :) Please post pics when you can!
A ring is a ring. Most "new" diamonds people buy at the jewelers, guess what? It has come from someone else's used jewelry! There is no point in spending more for the illusion that someone else hasn't worn it.
I am allllllllllllllllll about estate jewelry! My husband and I actually wished we knew about the rewards of estate jewelry before purchasing my ering. You can get a great value for a smaller price....to me, TOTALLY WORTH IT! The ring (whether new or used and for sale due to divorce, financial problems, or death) doesn't make or break a relationship; communication, trust, and compassion is what makes up a relationship.
Enjoy your ring, and post pictures whenever you get it! :-D
@KatyElle: Very true! My jeweler said there is no such thing as a "new diamond" really; diamonds are recycled alllllllllllllllllll the time.
I'm not superstitious at all but I love a bargain, so if you can find the ring of your dreams second hand then it's SO worth it!
@FutureMrs.Wood: Yup! I think it's funny when people are like "I would NEVER buy a used ring, what if it came from a bad relationship?!" and chances are they are wearing a used diamond from who knows what kind of relationship.
It's kind of weird, if I was in your situation I would definitely buy the ring. But if it was a close friend, Id be leery of buying it, only because I personally those involved in the now broken relationship. I would have no qualms about buying one off eBay or Craigslist, by its sort of like the less I know about why the ring is being sold, he more okay I am with it. I voted yes on the poll.
I think it is a great thing to buy used! I mean, most jewelry it just recycled anyway, so might as well take it at a lower price!
I have no problem with owning a "preowned" ring. My set is an estate piece and I love it.
My wedding band is preowned. I bought it at a local jewelry shop & they buy people's jewelry all of the time then resell it. I see no problem with it!
I kind of wish we would have explored estate jewelry before buying my ering. I love it and all but I think we could have found something really unique if we went the preowned route. I'm all about saving a few bucks, too.
I'm not superstitious. I don't think a ring is cursed just because was an accessory in a failed relationship.
Jewellery is mostly recycled anyway, sounds like you got a very good ring, like new at a much better price. Just hope the ring isn't unlucky..
I actually prefer used (or as I call it, "recycled") jewelry. Most stones are re-used anyway, and I like mellow white gold that isn't rhodium plated.
How exciting! I think pre-owned rings are fine! I love pre-owned everything! My ring is an estate piece from the 1920s. My wedding dress I'm purchasing from another Bee on here! I'm hoping to buy more things for my wedding pre-owned, as well. It's cost effective and environmentall friendly to re-use :)
Also, Pictures please!!!
I'm SO happy my FH bought my ring from a pawn shop...VERY proud of that decision :)
What?! That guys is nuts for losing that much money! Why not just take it back?! Whoo hoo to you though!!
I LOVE antique rings, and I especially love when it has a previous inscription on the inside. Someone else loved that ring, too...
Thanks everyone for your input! I understand the whole negative energy perspective on it...this whole experience for us has been so amazing and so very different from the experience the seller had with the ring (who never even had the chance to show it to his girlfriend-she changed her mind about wanting to get married prior to him ever getting down on one knee).
If anything I think this is just fate that I stumbled across this ring because we could never have afforded it otherwise!
@KatyElle: You make a very good point, most diamonds are recycled and some people never even know!
Here is a single picture of the ring, my boyfriend wouldn't let me keep any other photos! (I snuck a 2 second video in the jewelry store where we did the exchange, but he inspected my phone before we left and deleted it AWW MAN!! lol)
Anyway here is a photo!
@Ms.GoodEarth: THANK YOU!! I LOVE it!!! I can't wait to take more pictures when I get it, but that probably wont be for atleast another 6 months or so. AHH so excited!!!
Yep, definitely worth it. I wouldn't care who that ring belonged to, it's your now! lol
@smiles731: YAY for you! I wish we had looked into buying a used ring/stone to save money. I had looked at one antique jeweler in my area and we would have only been saving $100-$200 but that was on a solitaire and my band ahs sidestones. What size is your center stone? It is gorgeous! :)
OMG it is BEAUTIFUL!! I have no problem with 'used' jewelry, especially one that wasn't ever actually used!! I think as long as your SO didn't buy it for someone else and then give it to you, that's totally fine. I'm sure some people wouldn't agree...but that's my opinion. A ring is a ring, it means nothing to you or your SO except the memories you're making with it. Good for you, it's an amazing ring!
I think it's an awesome deal, good for you two!
I would. My FH proposed with a wedding ring set as a "placeholder" that he had bought to propose to his GF nearly 20 years ago; she was killed in a car crash.
It was pretty; but sapphire/yellow gold an not my style: that was my only holdup, not that he bought it for someone else. I never did wear it, though, and we just kept our engagement between the two of us for 6 weeks until the ring we designed together came in.
@elovesm: Thank you! The center diamond is 2.1 carats--I NEVER dreamt I would have a ring like this
@MerryWidow: Thank you!! I love your ring too and that's exactly what I thought!
@Ivorybuttons: Wow, what a story. I am having a hard time keeping the purchase of the ring secret I don't know how you could do it! (guess that's why I am posting on here to let it all out!)
yea, that ring is breathtaking. i would feel strange buying someone's worn e-ring that came straight off their hand and onto mine, lol i dont know why. but he never even proposed, that's a new ring baby!! lol so happy yall purchased it, it's stupidly beautiful. and that stone is huge
@MissTX: Thank YOU! I can't wait to take more photo's of it once I get it...it is being sized right now-haha your so funny, it IS a new ring- you are absolutely right and best of all... WITHOUT the terribly insane price tag! yay!
@smiles731: 2 cts!!!!!!! WHOA! If you don't mind me asking, what was the seller listing it for?
@FutureMrs.Wood: I know right!! I can't believe it myself, here are the specs on the GIA report:
Carat: 2.10
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
FL; None
(sry deleted the price in case I regret it later, or my bf sees that I posted it since he knows that I am on here!)
@RR: THANK YOU!!! :D :D
Your future FI got a steal. You both should be super happy about this purchase :) I bet you can't wait to get that baby on your finger!
Beautiful! Rings don't hold negative energy. Congratulations!!
@FutureMrs.Wood: OMG you have NO idea! Love your solitaire btw, my bf really wanted to get me a solitaire but we couldn't pass this up, and when we saw it in person we both loved it. We figured maybe later on down the road we can change it to a gorgeous solitaire setting if I get sick of the halo!
@GroovyHippieChick: My thoughts exactly! THANK YOU!! :D
Gorgeous ring! I think buying preowned ring is the best way to go. That is what we did. We saved so much money that way. Why would you not want a better ring for less money.
It will be so exciting when you get to wear it!
We got mine on E-bay from an online pawn-shop. It came with all of the stats. We paid $750 for a $3,000 ring... I have no problem with it! I'm just happy to have it! We got it as a 1 year wedding present for me and now, if I ever wanted to upgrade when we have more money, there is no guilt associated!
Go for it.. that ring is gorgeous!
