@kaleydonahue:  I think paypal is pretty safe.  I used paypal to buy a lot of stuffs over the years and it runs in the hundreds.  However, it is unreasonable of her to not compromise.  She has to understand this is not a $50 item.  Insist on getting the proof.  It’s harder to sell than it is to buy.  It’s not like she has ton of offers.  Depending on when your wedding will be, you have plenty of time to find the right dress.

Unless she sends a receipt or new photos, I wouldn’t buy the dress. I know you love this dress, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk that she’s scamming you. A legitmate seller should be glad to have someone interested in the dress and do everything possible to convince you to buy it. This girl has too many red flags to ignore.

Def sounds like a scam. Much like the Craigslist car scams and they always ask for PayPal! I would not trust her at all. If she can’t send you legit real pics. Be very careful with this. I know you are desperate for this exact gown but please be weary and think logically. Im sure these pics are copied and she doesn’t even have a dress! Be careful!

“Thank you for all of your patience in answering my questions. I’m afraid I’m just not comfortable buying the dress without seeing further pictures. I really would love to have this dress, but I want to be 100% certain of my purchase before buying. If you can pull the dress from storage and send me a few more pictures, I will absolutely move forward with buying the dress. But I really would need to see more pictures before making any purchase. I hope you understand my caution! Thanks so much”

I would say “I am still very interested in this dress. However, without additional pictures or the receipt I am not comfortable making the purchase. Please let me know if you will be able to send either of those items.”

To be fair, I had a seller refuse to open a dress because it was preserved and sealed. And it was a legitimate dress (I purchased it after she took another picture of the box for me). She might be trying to protect the value of the dress because it is worth more sealed than not sealed.

@kaleydonahue:  Hopefully the box is one that gives some indication that it is a wedding dress (like if it was preserved). I know the seller I bought from kept saying that if she opened the box and I changed my mind then it wouldn’t be worth as much to another buyer. I hope it is legit and everything works out 🙂

Agree with everyone and be very aware of the times the emails are being replied … many of these scammers live overseas :/

Also request pics with sign with the date or your name … something specific . If they can afford  that dress then they have a camera or even skype. Protect your money !!!

Good luck!  I got mine (also my dream Monique Lhullier) at the same site.  I agreed with my seller to use paypal (she wanted a wire transfer first but I have a friend who at paypal and told me I would be covered).  It was not in the condition it was supposed when I got it, but definetly workable, so I kept it and loved the result.  I hope you find yours!!

kaleydonahue:

It’s a scam. Paypal is a great way to pay if you pay as a business transcation because you can dispute it. You cannot dispute paypal if you pay as a friend, which is what scammers ask you to pay as.
