What would you do If there was this one dress that you loved. You have been looking at pictures of it since before you even got engaged. You finally found a place that had it but it was to small so you couldnt try it on. You held it up to your body and fell compleatly in love with it and you felt like it was the one and only dress for you and it even made you cry. Would you buy the dress without trying it on and just pray that it looks as good on you as you imagined?

And you tryed on a dress that was the same style as the one you love and you like the way it looks on you.

I would! I live five 1/2 hours away from the bridal store that has my dream dress (been dying over the pictures online for awhile now.) And I figured I would just order it online and not spend so much money in gas just to try it on when I know it's the one.

But since my dad is buying my dress, I have to travel that far just to try it on. BUT if he wasn't paying for it, I would purchase it without trying it on.

Just make sure you pick the right size!

I actually did this! I saw it in a catalog, and knew I wanted to try it on but the store didn't have it in my size. I tried on dresses with similar shapes, and they looked good, so I went ahead and ordered it without trying the actually dress on. When it came in, it fit PERFECT! If you know the style looks good on you, I'd say go for it!

If you're totally in love with it, just do it. If you end up not liking it you can return it (if possible) or sell it on ebay/craigslist.

@FutureMrs.Spencer:  Didn't you purchase a gown the other day? I was following the thread and thought you looked gorgeous in that dress.

I did purchase my dream gown that I couldn't try on. I went off of the online review photos of girls with my shape and didn't think it would be that bad, until I got the gown and tried it on. I ended up disliking it and exchanging it for something that better suited me--that is the exception, not the rule in bridal world. I worked for the salon where I bought it and it was done as a favor.

@FutureMrs.Spencer:  I bought mine that way. I found it online used at the perfect price so I just bit the bullet and bought it. The seller had the same measurements as me and it was just too good to pass up. I tried on similar dresses by the same designer in a store first though.

@Carnival Bride, I told the lady I would be in to order it in a few weeks. I was going to get that one but for some reason I just couldnt fully commit to it. Yesterday I went to a diffrent bridal salon (felt like I was cheating on the dress I picked out lol) And then I saw my dream dress there. The one I have always loved but never thought I would be able to get (i dont know why I thought this) I couldnt try it on but It was so beautiful and made me cry and I know now this is it lol. Nothing compares. its the same fit as the other one. Its the maggie sottero Jenna dress.

Here to try and be the sole voice of reason who tells you not to do that.

You know what would be nicer than buying a dress that you don't know will fit you? I bet you do... haha. Making jokes.

Lots of dresses I liked the look of - I tried them on and they fit me, they just didn't look right.

@FutureMrs.Spencer:  In that case, totally go with the gown of your dreams, especially if no money has exchanged hands. :)

Does Maggie Sottero have a loaner program so you can try the sample? I know some other designers like Bonny have a "Borrow a Bonny" program and in exchange for shipping fees, they'll ship a sample in your/close to your size to the authorized salon of your choice, so you can try it before you order it.

I actually did this as well. I ordered my dress from David's Bridal and absolutely loved it even more after I recieved it in the mail. It fit perfectly and looked absolutely beautiful. If you like the dress, then get it. I'm sure you won't regret it. Smile

I just purchased my gown last week without ever trying it on. I couldnt find it in any bridal shop although they carried the line and couldnt find any real bride pics online. But it was just too gorgeous to pass up. I did try on one slightly similar and that sealed the decision for me. It wont be in til June though, I cant wait to try it on. I say if is your dream dress, if you just cant get it out of your mind, go for it--its the one!

    HelloHello my dear

I did something similar, I went to bridal shops to try on a few things and between that and what I know generally suits my shape I contacted a company to make me my dress which had all the elements I dreamed of, thus I hadn't technically seen it or tried it on!! It was nerve wracking not getting to see it and try it on exactly however; I saw photos of it beforebit arrived and cried the first time I tried it on as it was unique and the dress of my dreams. It was also less of a risk as going straight to the suppliers who made the dress rather than paying overheads for someone's shop rent saved me not just on alterations as it was already made to measure but also meant I got a top quality unique dress at less than 10% of the retail price. I couldn't imagine a better dress for me, and it sounds like you have found yours too. My adive is contact a dress maker, she can advise you if there are any slight alterations you may need to make to make it perfect for your shape, you can personalise it, and worst case if you don't love it (though I'm sure u will if you get the right dressmaker/supplier) you won't have wasted too and be feel guilt free :) enjoy the process you deserve to feel beautiful and live your dream :)

One last thing is to be completely honest about your measurements. I would hate for it to come in a little too small. And make sure you're ordering to accomodate the largest measurement, its pretty much inevitable that one of the measurements will be for a smaller size than the others. Its much easier to alter down than up.

This happen to me. I fell in love with one dress. I mean head over heels in love with it. I could not try it on. They did not have a my size in a sample. They had a dress 4x smaller. I was told to use my imagination. I said screw it! I ordered it and rocked it at my wedding!!! I loved my dress. I know my body and i know my curves. This dress even made me look smaller! I ordered the Fiorella by maggie sottero

I've been considering it. I've been looking all over for Mori Lee 1813, but nobody has it where I live! I've tried on some similar, but I'm just not sure... I'm hoping to find it a couple hours away in a bigger city, but I might just bite the bullet if I can't find it.

A little risky. Most of my friends have said that they picked a dress then LOVED and tried it on and they hated it and ended up with something they never thought they'd have...

I just did this, because the dress I wanted from David's Bridal was not available in store.  I'm a little nervous about it.  We'll see what happens though!
