@WeddingPea:  I *almost* bought a ring from Blue Nile, but ended up going with Zoara instead.  They were a little LESS than BN.  Excellent customer service, GIA stone- the whole experience was very positive.  I have heard great things about Blue Nile- the only thing I have heard that isn’t favorable is that while they do have a return policy- and they WILL allow you to return, they make it sort of difficult to do so.

Have never heard that anyone wasn’t able to- just that they make it a  pain in the booty to!!  I’d go for it if they have what you’re looking for- otherwise check out Zoara.

I did buy my first ering from BN and I LOVED their customer service. Their prices were pretty great too, and they usually do price matching. Just ask an associate for how to do it. I returned the ring because FI and I couldn’t comfortably afford it at the time but I wish we kept it. The diamond quality was amazing.

Blue Nile has been amazing. My FI got my diamond from there and it was beautiful. And now, he wanted to give me an upgrade for our wedding present, he ordered my upgrade from there beacuse they have an amazing upgrade program and their customer service has been fantastic.

My upgrade stone is from Blue Nile, and they were fabulous to work with. They patiently answered all of my questions at all hours of the day and night; the same people I had been working with called me back when a note was left that I called; they checked the stones I was asking about in person and told me honestly whether they were milky or had visible inclusions. Indeed, I ruled out several stones because Blue Nile was honest about their quality and visual performance. Additionally, I liked having access to the GIA certificates themselves instead of just the colour and clarity ratings. It was important to me to check the actual inclusion plot and the specific angles of each stone to properly determine cut quality (even GIA XXX stones can vary in performance).

I am very happy we went with Blue Nile, and I would highly recommend them to others.

Blue Nile are fantastic and their customer service is amazing as well. My diamond was beautiful and the cut was perfect (I still cant stop looking at it and blings out my coworkers). We sent back my dimond ring 5 times to have the setting changed (long story why) but the point is they did a terrific job every time and my diamond was alway returned in the same state. We ended up buying my wedding band from their as well. I would definately buy from them again. No complaints here.

Their security process around validating dimonds (distributed and returns) is sound.

Blue Nile may be worth it for modern round brilliants, where you can use the #’s on the certificate to plug into the HCA and guestimate it’s performance. BN is a drop-shipper and they do not even know what the diamonds look like. They ship it to you sight unseen. Which means you might even get an eye-visible inclusion in a VS2 since you really don’t know what you’re getting!

For anything other than a round, it really isn’t recommended to buy from them since you really need to SEE the pattern, the design, the optic performance, etc.

We had a great experience.  He bought my stone and ring from BN and I bought his wedding band from BN.  We had to return his band twice becuse of fitting problems and they were very nice an professional about it.  I highly recommend them.

Blue Nile is good, except you can’t actually see the diamond the way JA, whiteflash, and Brian Gavin allow you to. If you think that doesn’t matter, head on over to JA, select your diamond criteria, and look at the huge difference in appearance of all their inventory. Specs only get you so far, and I think if you buy online, it’s vital to go with a vendor who actually gives you images of your diamond.

A lot of BN’s inventory is drop-ship. However, all of their signature ideal cuts are in-house and every stone I asked about (ideal cuts, GIA triple X’s) happened to be on-site as well. Their own people reported to me, and not the word of the vendors; my stone was also shipped from BN’s location, not a different vendor.

As for fancy cuts, I cannot speak. I went with a MRB. And while I won’t go into details, I worked minimally with a different vendor and more with another (ones that were highly recommended by PS and provided images and ideal scopes of stones), but didn’t feel as confident in them and their stones/work. I actually did choose BN over some of the other, often recommended, vendors. I had already looked at countless stones and knew the sort of stone I was after. I could spot it by percentages and angles alone, but specs, conversations with BN and the HCA confirmed what I ordered. That may not be enough for some people, but BN’s return policy is secure and easy, and they are NOT a vendor who will try to talk you into liking a stone or work that you know you don’t (unlike some other vendors).

I know many people wouldn’t dream of choosing BN over some of the other online vendors, but experience has taught me otherwise.

I purchase and return stones from them all the time. Never had a problem but they do ask why you’re returning it. For example, I’ll buy 3 and return the two I didn’t like. I was trying to make a 5-stone and they needed to look good together. Still working on it actually…lol. But you won’t have a problem with them.

@WeddingPea:  Loved blue nile! They were great to deal with, and we even had to do an exchange of the setting. The stone is more than perfect and was a great value!
