  • Wedding: April 2014

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! Cabo is so beautiful with equally beautiful people.  I was married there this past April and it was so sad to see a lot of the places we traveled to with such damage. Is it possible the wedding could still go on? I know Cabo San Lucas downtown area on the Pacific side (versus the Sea of Cortez) side was hit the worse. How bad was it near San Jose, I haven’t heard?  The positive is that you were not there for your wedding when it happened and everyone is healthy and safe. Like you said, I would still legally marry next month in the US and then plan the trip and the civil ceremony in Cabo when things settle down. Hopefully there is traveling insurance to help with the costs or the airlines and hotel understand the situation.

Good luck and early congrats!

Paguilar84:  I am so sorry that you are dealing with this! I am also a bride planning a destination wedding (wine country), and I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to have all of the months of planning be postponed or altered because of something outside of your control. I had a bit of a scare with the recent Napa earthquake, but our wedding is months away and fortunately, the damage was limited to a concentrated area.

On the bright side, you weren’t there during the hurricane and your family/friends/loved ones are safe. I agree with the PP – I would get legally married in the US on your original wedding date and then celebrate your wedding in Cabo once things get back to normal there. The most important thing is that at the end of the day, no matter how or where, you get married and get to celebrate with your family and friends. So sorry you’re dealing with this – good luck!

Paguilar84:  Don’t be embarrassed at all – I would definitely be having a few “why me?!” moments as well (I think anyone would). I hope it gets sorted out soon, with minimal stress for you and your husband-to-be, and I’m sure you guys will have a great wedding story to tell in the future.

If you have local bridesmaids, can any of them come over for a vent/cry session? Maybe it will help to talk to someone and be as selfish as you want for a little while, and then you focus on getting the wedding back on track.

Paguilar84:  have you contacted your resort/travel agent to see if they would keep your date but move you to a different resort? I am on a different board and that is what they did for a girl on there.  She also said the airlines were very nice about switching everyone’s flights over.
