I do not know where to put this so I hope I put this in the right place. I was reading several other posts about Homosexuality and religion and specifically about where in the bible it says that homosexuality is a sin. I wanted to post MY opinion on referencing the bible and see what other bees think.
THIS IS MY OPINION and is in no way meant to hurt or offend anyone.
So the way I see it when people quote passages in the bible that refer to homosexuality is a sin as this: there are several passages that approve of slavery, women as property, some food as sinful, no birth control etc. Do the people who quote the bible to condemn homosexuality abide by all passages in the bible.
Now if you say
well the slavery one is obviously a product of the time or obviously wrongthen to me you are a cafeteria christian…picking and choosing and this is where using the bible to reinforce homosexuality as a sin really pisses me off.
How many christian women have had sex while using some form of birth control…you have just committed a sin. And if you are on the pill and say it is okay because of this and that but condemn homosexuality then your a cafeteria christian! Picking and choosing what you want to believe in out of the bible!
And that is what really bugs me about using religious verses to condemn homosexuality is that you cannot pick and choose which ones to use, you must abide by every word of it in order to use those words against other people.
The bible says alot of stuff. If you personally do not believe in homosexuality then just say that. But do not use the bible to back yourself up because the bible says so much stuff that christians choose to ignore.
By The Way I am a engaged to a man, raised Catholic. I believe in a God and Jesus that was filled with love. Jesus sought out the rejects in society (the prostitute lepar etc), Jesus was LOVE and that is my religion. As long as it is 2 consenting adults who have freewill to choose eachother I approve.
