I saw that too...I was totally talking outloud to the TV and I was like "Holy crap!" And then I kinda laughed because of the faces on those guys. Artistic wise, I think Ace of Cakes is just slightly better, but it's in a different way. He is kinda mean on the Cake Boss compared to Duff, but sometimes it's pretty hilarious since they are all family.
And WOW...you are going to be a Bee Keeper before you know it Bulldog!
I like Ace of Cakes better. There's a lot of yelling on Cake Boss that I find kind of irritating. Ace of Cakes also seems to be more about the cakes than the relationships in the bakery. Cake Boss is about the shouting.
I never saw Ace of Cakes... for some reason with my satellite TV the guide and the actual broadcast never matched up, so it kept being car shows of various types when Ace of Cakes was SUPPOSED to be on. ;) I don't like Cake Boss that much, though; there is a lot of shouting and it stresses me out! I prefer Amazing Wedding Cakes... much less drama.
I like them both. I like Cake Boss, because you see more of the icing of the cakes and the actual construction. It always fascinates me when they do it, dirty Ice and all. I love Duff though on Ace of Cakes. I just think the show is mostly filled with him doing some crazy project to make something breath fire or spin around. Also, I don't think Buddy is mean. I think he's Italian and runs a bakery filled with his family! I would shoot myself!
I think the reason I like CB better is that you see more "real" cakes. I loved the cakes he did for Brides. Did anybody ever seen them in the magazine? I never knew I liked piping!
I love cake boss! Did you see how well he handled the bridezilla when she put icing all over her cake the day before her wedding? that took major self-restraint not to dump the cake on top of her. I thought that cake was beautiful, and the one he did for her in the end was amazing as well.
I agree that Cake Boss is a little more about the shouting but they show more detail than most of the other shows. We checked out a venue on Saturday and were told that all of their cakes (that are included in the package) are made by the Cake Boss which I thought was pretty cool. Their cakes are so pretty!
Yeah, I don't like all the yelling on Cake Boss either... I like the happy fun atmosphere of Ace of Cakes much more :) But I do really like the bride cakes they do on Cake Boss. Especially the ones they didi for Bride Magazine!
I'm trying really hard to be a Bee Keeper before I'm married
I like that skinny laid-back guy on Ace of Cakes, what is his name? He makes me like that show.
I think there's lots of yelling on Cake Boss but pp is right - they're family and they're loud. Done.
I think Amazing Wedding Cakes is good too but the woman with her sugared glass balls kills me every time. Shut up about your glass balls already. :-)
I agree with the Bees that Duff and his team make more creative and spectacular cake but I love the relationships on Cake Boss. Cake wise I like Duff's cake more.
Buddy and fam are very Italian (reminds me of the Italian family owned bakery in my city) and I love the Jersey accents. I loved when the mom flipped out on him for making the bachlorette party cake.
I haven't seen Ace of Cakes (but I'll be sure to check it out!). I like Cake Boss, though, especially the Italian-ness of it all. Sure, Buddy is a little mean, but wouldn't you expect that from a show with "Boss" in the title?
I can take Cake Boss in small doses. I tend to dislike shows where Italian Americans screaming at each other and generally being cuckoo, and there's a lot of that on that show.
One thing I do like is that unlike a lot of other wedding cake shows, they do tend to work with cake as their main medium. A lot of these super expensive wedding cakes are less cake than pipe, wood, etc. that they've molded the cake on to!
I love Duff and the atmosphere he has in his Bakery. I think their sculpted cakes are nicer at Charm City Cakes, too. The bridal cakes they did on Cake Boss for Bride magazine were beautiful, though.
Before I met my FI my mom told me she sent an email to Duff that said she wanted him to date her daughter ![]()
I love all things cake - I mean all cake shows! lol
I watch Cake boss and Ace of Cakes and like them both. Its always cool to see different dynamics.
Buddy with his italian family bakery with the yelling, lol. Although alot of you don't like it, it makes me laugh! ha ha
Duff with the laid back shop and all his fun loving staff. I love Geoff. he cracks me up with his monotone humor lol!
Love everything they make! its phenomenal!
I like Ace of Cakes better. There is way too much attitude and screaming in Cake Boss (especially from that main guy with the black hair--can't remember his name.)
Everyone on Ace of Cakes is nice and sometimes funny. However Cake Boss has some really nice wedding cakes featured in the shows.
I love watching both shows - the amount of pre-work that goes into each cake is amazing. And the Cake Boss episode where they drop the sweet-16 cake - oh wow. I cringed during the commercial teaser and cringed again when it happened. Why didn't they use the elevator??
ugh I saw that guy in a couple Food Network challenges and I just can't stand him. I wanted to punch him in the one challenge where their partners were the Brides they were making the cakes for and he was saying how he was running the show and if she didn't like it then oh well. Oh gah he gets on my nerves.
I looove Ace of Cakes, Duff and his crew are hilarious. :)
I'm not a fan of Cake Boss--He may get a pass for acting bossy (ha ^_^) to his family on his shot, but I saw that same Food Network challenge where the brides were the bakers' partners, and I was not impressed with how he acted. I thought he was kinda dismissive of the bride and very dismissive of the criticism from the judges, which drives me nuts. I'd rather watch Ace of Cakes where people are nice and not screaming. Or if I could just get the pretty cake part of Cake Boss...maybe I'll watch it on mute. ^_^
did anyone see the Food Network Challenge where Duff made the birthday cake for Kerry Vincent? seriously! it looked like something my 14 yr old cousin would die for! this woman is sophisticated and obviously is a cake 'queen' do something a bit better than that....the Chanel bag was suppose to make it 'older' blagh!
T and I actually spent (accidentally while flipping channels) Cake Boss. I LOVE him!!! He is hilarious!
I also think he was rather nice to the psycho bridezilla who destroyed her cake and was super rude. That client had best paid the guy well for that!!! (bridezilla psycho was her daughter).
We love the cake where he made it to look like a roulette wheel. Almost an episode of the Sopranos!!!
Did anybody see the one where they made the wedding cake with the LIVE BIRDS in the lucite cage in the center? We were like..um..what if they crapped in the cage?
lmao bellenga, seriously??? Birds carry diseases...and lice...and eeww. I love birds...but not anywhere near my food thanks.
Chantellamus, I wish I had seen that one...gah making a cake for Kerry Vincent...wow. Scary! Did you see the Disney one where this one girl was doing Snow White but her cake was 90% the evil queen and she told Kerry that she kind of looked like her. Oh wow was that an uncomfortable challenge to watch lol.
I think the designs on Ace of Cakes are much more entertaining...but sometimes I think there is just too much inedible stuff (styrofoam and such) as part of the cake. The Cake Boss people use more cake in their creations which I appreciate. Although both shows are really so 'set up', the Cake Boss situations are so fake, I feel like TLC thinks we're all very stupid.
That all being said, I live 5 blocks from Carlo's Bakery (Cake Boss), so when I walked in to pick up some cookies the other day (they really do make good stuff), Buddy was out talking to customers and he seemed like a nice normal guy that was enjoying meeting all the fans. And...they do make really awesome cakes and cookies.
My FI and I LOVE Cake Boss. I really love the family dynamics - clearly they all have a lot of love for everyone involved with the business. I mean, they give Stretch a hard time, but it's all in good fun!
Cake Boss has actually inspired me - I'm finishing my first-ever layered cake (FOUR layers!) tonight!
I love the ceremonial dumping of colored flour and stuff on him ya know?
That crazy bride just had me laughing my arse off! T was just sitting there bug eyed. He had more restraint with her than I would. I would have given her that cake and told her to leave. I wanna get a cupcake from Carlo's!!!

Beekeeper
I'm watching the Cake Boss where they drop the girls 16th birthday cake and then remake it just in time! Can you believe it?
