Our cake was about $3.00 – $3.50 per slice.  Don’t forget that if you select fewer layers or smaller sizes that it will lessen the cost, as will using sheet cakes.

Here was ours, which was around $500 for 175 guests (unfortunately, we had an oversight with the flowers on top):

@Mrs.M: The basic cost of my cake is $5 per slice ($400 for 80 guests). However, after all the fees, tax, flowers (extra $200), the total price of the cake is about $700.  The final cost of the cake is $8.75 per slice.

It doesn’t feel good when my dad reminded me that most guests don’t eat cake. I hope he’s wrong. At least, based on the Weddingbee poll I had a while ago, he’s wrong. Tongue out

Ours was $2.50/slice for the cake, and $1.50/slice for the sheet cake behind the scenes, to make up the difference between how many the cake would serve vs how many guests we had. And it was delicious.

if your quote sounds expensive – it’s probably normal.  If it sounds like a bargain, it’s probbaly too good to be true!

Sorry – I can’t remember how much my cake slices were.

@cutexkitty: I’m having cupcakes. I’m selfishly hoping my guest won’t eat all of it so I can.

It all depends on the area you live in.  I would guess living in Pittsburgh might make them a bit more expensive.  I paid $2 per slice for mine plus delivery fee for a total of $200 for 74 slices and the top layer was free, so it was probably more like 80-85 slices.  The average range for my area is $2.50-$3.50 per slice.

Here is my cake

@redherring:

Your cake is gorgeous! I think I’m actually saving that as an inspiration pic. Orchids and roses? Are those fresh flowers?

I live in the Milwaukee area and cake prices run between $2.75-3.75. I’m getitng mine from a bakery 45-min outside of town (near the reception site) and it goes for $2.25 a slice. We might also get just a smaller tiered cake (3 layers instead of 4) and get a sheet cake, which would reduce the # of slices we have to get. We did a cake tasting at the bakery a couple of weeks ago. It was better-than-average cake. Very good, but not OMG BEST DESSERT EVER good. Moist, tasty and simple. I agree that most guests won’t have high expectations for the cake (and many won’t even have any) so I wouldn’t go nuts on the cake budget. I am doing a homemade desserts table as well, so guests will have yummy sweets to eat other than the cake.
