    OK, I did say to take the free cake…but have you seen this cake company you won from…tasted it?? Maybe it is terrible. But unless it is REAL terrible, I would take it! 🙂 Hope that helps!!

    @ToTheRiot:  Congrats! 😀

    Go with the free cake. The other woman will understand! Explain the truth – you had signed up with a contest to win a free cake much earlier, and just found out that you won.  It’s not like the other woman has already invested any time or work or energy into your cake, so she just basically gets a free $50 from your deposit. 🙂

    I’d most likely take the free cake if I knew that it would be of the quality and taste I wanted.  I would feel bad about taking my business away from someone else, but with the expenses that come with weddings, saving a few bucks would be great.

    If it were me, I would let her know that I won a free cake and feel that it would be in my best interest, financially, to proceed with the gifted cake.  I definitely would tell her that you are incredibly impressed by her work and appreciate the time she took with you as well.

    Agree with above, she’s not out anything yet!  Take the free cake.

    I would definitely take the free cake!  Just call or e-mail the other woman and tell her that you love her work, but you’ve decided to go with a different vendor.  It’s nothing personal against her.  I’m sure this happens all the time.  It’s up to you whether or not you tell her about winning the free cake contest.  As long as you’re polite and sincere, it shouldn’t be a big deal.

    No, by all means tell her about the contest! Don’t let her think you found someone better, that would disappoint her and make her feel bad. You didn’t decide to pay the same amount for another cake, you won a contest, totally different from her perspective!!

    @ToTheRiot:  See if you can use that $50 deposit towards a rehersal dinner cake, grooms cake or the similar.  Sounds like best of both worlds.

    Yeah, take the free cake. If your wedding isn’t until June, it’s not like she already has it half done. And you’ve given her a deposit that covers the work she has put in already.

    I’d just email her and say you won a free cake from a bridal show, so you no longer need her services. She’ll understand.
