I've seen some of the girls DIY these in really nifty ways. Have you checked some of your favorite stores for buying dishes?
One of the bee's just blogged about glueing a candle holder (someone also mentioned a glass) onto a regular glass plate and making a cake stand. She said she got the pieces from goodwill.
I have also seen some available online at Target for the holidays.
