We're doing two flavors/three layers. Two will be almond and the other will be lemon. Both are made with brandy as opposed to the usual rum. So excited! Have you gone to the stores yet and sampled their flavors?
Well, I've been looking forward to having a white cake with lemon curd filling and either buttercream or vanilla frosting. I don't like stuff that's too heavy, and I love lemon curd, so it's kind of a no-brainer
. But just for the heck of it I'm also trying a butter-almond cake with chocolate ganache filling, which also sounds very tasty but not what I will ultimately pick. For the record I heard from my MOH and my pastry chef that fondant tastes nasty, in case you were considering a fondant cake.
OMG, I started writing before NatiSylv posted--weird coincidence that she's having the same flavors I'm trying!
We're having two different flavors - one white with raspberry filling and another strawberry with strawberries and whipped cream filling. All with a french merrengiue (I totally spelled that wrong) frosting - which isn't nearly as heavy as buttercream. And then our top layer is confetti cake, which my grandma used to make me as a kid!
Yum- I want cake now.
We did 3 different layers too;
bottom: White cake with key Lime curd middle layer: chocolate cake with dulce de leche filling top layer: white cake with guava filling.
we were supposed to save the top layer to have on our anniversary, but we wanted to eat it so bad- we ate it when we came back from our honeymoon- it was delectable! and we'll just order a mini cake for our anniversary- who wants to eat year old cake anyway!
We kept it plain and simple since most dinner courses are asian style spicy. Silver chiffon cake (lighter and spongier than traditional white cake) with vanilla custard filling and buttercream frosting. It melts in your mouth! :)
we chose cupcakes for our outdoor wedding.
Chocolate mint, Black Cherry Vanilla, and Stawberry lemonade. All are fairly light and fresh.
For my engagement party I had a red velvet cake with raspberry filing and cream cheese frosting. Everybody loved it, so I think I'm going to have that as my wedding cake flavor.
I am also doing 3 layers:
Bottom-Chocolate chip with chocolate mousse filling
Middle-White with raspberry filling
Top=Carrot cake with cream cheese filling
I second the opinion that fondant tastes horrible (though it looks amazing)! We are using buttercream and will still have a fairly intricate design.
All three layers of ours are death by chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling with fresh raspberries in it. Amazing!
Our baker told us he could do "whatever we want" but I need to narrow that down, so these ideas are so helpful! Sound so yummy- keep them coming.
we are going to do buttercream icing, mocha cake with white chocolate ganache filling. our second option was banana cake with cream cheese.
Ours is 4 layers: bottom -- chocolate with chocolate buttercream, middle -- vanilla with raspberry preserves, top -- spice with cream cheese buttercream, anniversary layer -- chocolate with chocolate buttercream. It's covered in chocolate ganache. I purposefully got the cake to serve more than needed because I heard that with different cake flavors on each tier, people will go back for more than 1 slice. I know I would! I want me some cake right now!
We're having two flavors of cake (both with buttercream):
Valrhona chocolate, which is sooooo goood...they add some coffee, which enhances the flavor of the chocolate. It is the best chocolate cake I've ever had...so moist and delicious.
Green tea with raspberry preserves, which I thought would be weird, but was so yummy...slightly sweet and a beautiful strking bright green color. We're planning to cut into this layer :)
I wasn't excited about having a cake at first b/c I thought it was a waste of money, but now I can't wait. We are planning to order extra servings b/c we are looking forward to having lots of cake...it's that good!
We're doing an orange/vanilla marble. My fiance said it was really, really tasty. (I'm going by faith because I'm allergic to wheat and our baker didn't have any gluten free samples hanging around.) I think it should be really good! :)
maureen9004- I just want to tell you one thing about how I imagine your cupcakes.....
"yum"
We're not having cake, but since you're having a november wedding, I would go with a flavor reminiscent of fall. Have you thought of doing a yummy carrot cake with cream cheese icing? Or maybe forego the cake and have a pie bar! You could do pecan pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, etc. All evoking thoughts of Thanksgiving and family! YUMMY!
We're having a four tier.
Bottom Carrot with cream cheese filling, 3rd Devil's food with chocolate filling, 2nd spice with cream cheese filling and I think we're doing the top carrot too!
I posted this before, but our flavors were
1) Champagne cake with fresh strawberry whipped cream filling
2) Dark chocolate cake with irish cream filling
3) Rum cake with fresh rasberry whipped cream filling.
An easier cake that really turns out well if your baker doesn't work well with alcohol
1) Chocolate cake with fresh strawberry and banana and whipped cream filling.
2) Coconut cake with mango whipped cream filling.
We're having each layer be two flavors-- one half key lime and one half chocolate, with raspberry filling inside and key lime buttercream icing outside. It sounds really crazy, but we had a tasting and it was out of this world!
We are having a five tier amaretto cake with Amaretto buttercream frosting, the grooms cake is chocolate with chocolate ganache!
Oh god... Please remind me that if I start eating cake for lunch everyday I won't fit into my dress come March...
All these yummy-sounding flavors makes me wish I actually ate the cake at my wedding... was too busy dancing.
On NiftyBa's comment. We told our venue to save us a couple slices of cake to take home. We didn't have time to eat cake either, unless you could the cake cutting. So it was awesome to find a take-out box with the cake and a bottle of champagne in our limo after the wedding.
This is an old post but still going to post anyways because just picked my cake out...I let my fiance do it and he did a great job! Chocolate strawberry flavoring with nutella filling with a buttercream frosting! Yum!

Hello Ladies,
It is time to make some choices on our wedding cake design and flavor. We all look at hundreds of photos of cakes we like, but don't talk about how they'll taste too often. I'm looking for some flavor suggestions? What do you all think is yummy? Also, anyone doing a different flavor in each tier? Would love to hear your ideas!
Thanks!
