I would love a little help with this one. :) Which cake do you think you'd enjoy the most? Please vote!

#1 Coconut cake, vanilla filling, white chocolate buttercream

#2 Yellow cake, custard filling, milk chocolate buttercream

#3 Fudge cake, caramel filling, vanilla bean buttercream

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are talking about.  What is a cake favor?  Are you sending people home with cake instead of having a wedding cake?

I think cake number one would be nice for an April wedding in Florida.  The fudge is a bit heavy, and I just don't like custard.  Hahahaha.  But it also depends on the feel of your wedding.  We have a chocolate cake for our wedding, but that's because I am addicted and it's Fall.  Hahahaha.

#1 because I don't like chocolate...but white chocolate is okay for me.

Yeah, lots of people hate coconut and/or are allergic. #3 is probably a safe bet--it sounds like a good combo to me. People love chocolate cake. Except me. Sometimes people wonder if i'm really a woman...=]

Apparently I can't read today.  Now that we are talking FLAVORS not FAVORS, my vote is for #2.  I don't like coconut and the fudge cake sounds heavy.

chocolate gives me migraines, if it didn't that's what i'd want. i voted coconut, but my fi doesn't like that, so now that i think about it #2 is probably safest. i'm used to eating around chocolate fillings. (this pickyness is coming from a girl who can't even eat wheat, my vote shouldn't count.)

    Also!

This is pretty random, and it might just be me, but custard fillings give me the creeps! Grosses me out.

Anyone else who's seen Van Wilder will understand.

I'm not a filling kinda girl, either, fifty - unless it's like a lovely gooey strawberry filling ... yummm.

But coconut seriously makes me scream and hightail it the other way!

I'm in love w/ coconut, it's so good. I figured everyone liked it! lol

texasmeredith, when I read your post I did the same thing as you, I read "favor" as "flavor". I was like, "Um, you don't know what a cake flavor is?" lol :p

Foodie, I did think about hazelnut but not sure how that would taste in cake? The only hazelnut stuff I've had is coffee and candy. :p

We also thought of banana cake or filling but didn't think alot would like it. But now that I know so many don't like coconut, I could be wrong lol.

fifty, I haven't seen Van Wilder. Sounds like it's good that I didn't lol.

Um, I can't resist anything chocolate related so I voted for #3, but I would suggest maybe a different filling, such as raspberry or almond.

A lot of people aren't coconut fans, but if its your favorite- why not have 1 tier of coconut for you & the rest a more crowd pleasing flavor??

I love vanilla cake & custard! Mmm... it reminds me of Costco cake lol. If I didn't bake for a living (and knowing everyone will dissect my cake choice) I'd totally get Costco sheet cakes! Yummy.

i like any of those -- without the filling.

    i just don't like fillings.

i'd really vote yelllow cake / chocolate icing, no filling, if i had that choice.

I'd prefer vanilla cake with coconut filling to the other way around, but #1 sounds best to me.

Out of those 3, I would choose #2. I don't really like chocolate too much so the fudge cake is out and I absolutely love coconut cake but I don't think it would be popular with a lot of people, so I would go with #2. Seems like a safe bet out of the 3 choices.

I think the coconut flavor is perfect for a Florida wedding!  Speaking from much experience in Florida weddings (I am the Dir. of Catering for a resort in the Keys), just be sure your cake doesn't get brought outside too early if you are having an outdoor reception.  The buttercream icing will start to melt and no one wants a leaning cake :)

I voted #2. Aside from the fact that, well, that's my favorite ;-) , it seems a little lighter. I'm not a huge fan of caramel...it seems a little too heavy to me.

But go with what you love the most!

I know a lot of people don't like coconut (me NOT included) - and some people have an aversion to chocolate.

Could you do two layers?  One fudge cake w/ caramel (that sounds SO good!), the other yellow cake w/ custard and a buttercream frosting?

It think that would please most, if not all, palates.

    Yumm chocolate

I dont know the numbers you are having, but i am getting a tiered cake (all iced white and decorated) but am planning on haveing the cakes diffrent flavers so there is a choice (hopefully this wont start fights for who gets what flaver :-S)

I'd love all three, but I am the polar opposite of a picky eater - I picked #3 for the poll because I was excited to see "vanilla bean" but honestly, i'd got with something like a yellow cake, caramel filling and vanilla or chocolate buttercream, maybe alternating?

Am I an odd one out who loves fillings? I know plenty of people who enjoy coconut, however vanilla filling and white chocolate buttercream sounds like an odd/busy combination of tastes that not everyone will enjoy. Of your choices, I would go with the fudge cake with caramel filling, although I'm not sure how it would taste with vanilla buttercream. Might be good. I would have a non-chocolate option for those who don't like it or can't eat it. Find out from your baker what the other options are and make sure to get a tasting before you decide.

No matter what you pick though, there will be someone who doesn't like it and it's impossible to please everyone. You can always get the top tier in the flavor of your choice that your guests wouldn't eat to snack on in your hotel room (and won't go bad in the freezer for a year) since so many brides say they didn't even to get to taste their cake at the reception.

Edit: Interestingly, I know more people who have intense aversions to Nutella and anything flavored similar than do to coconut, etc. But you obviously know your guests best and what they will and won't eat.

#3 sounds amazing!  Those are some interesting combinations.  I have no idea what custard tastes like, but if it's sweet, I'm sure it's delish!

I didn't even think about the tiers being different flavors. I think we will do that! :)

You all have given some very good input, I appreciate it. I love this place! :) Gonna have to think about it some more(and taste). I'll post again once we get it all figured out.

Well they all sound good but I'm allergic to coconut so I would probably die from the first bite! I'm definitely loving number #3!

Side note: Ours is all red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and butter creme frosting.
