So hard to find good deals in nYC but I found one!

Gailwatsoncakes.com (click on the simple cake link)

And you can create your own cake and they just look simply elegant and gorge!

    YAy!

OMG! Maybe that is just cause your in NYC but my cake was only about $5 per slice and it was the best cake that I've ever tasted in my life!  Congrats on finding your wedding cake!

Awesome!  That is a great option for a beautiful but affordable (in "wedding" terms) cake.  Thanks for sharing!

Thinking about doing cupcake tiers.. and only the top would be a 6-9 inch round cake for the ceremonial cutting.   Has anyone seen this done well at a wedding?  So much cheaper than a cake....

I found this company that rents fake cakes, Cakes Confidential, in Midtown. The cake I'm getting is $300 to rent. Initially I didn't like the idea but it looks amazing...   and we're having a big wedding and wanted a 'wow' cake but could afford the city prices...

@MehBee: I've seen this done at my friend's wedding but the cake was not on the top tier. The cake was on a separate stand and then the cupcakes were passed out after the cake was cut. It looked wonderful and everyone loved the cupcakes!!
