How much should our cake cost whet by alive or overall for 400-500 invites?

well our cake is $260 for one hundred guest to Ima say about $1000 for that many ppl but it all depends on the bakery you choose and how detail and work they have to do on your cake...fillings cost more and soome icings cost more.

It depends on the area that you are living and how much detailing and what type of cake, etc. In my area, it starts at about $2.40 per serving for a basic design.

Cake runs the gamut here.  I've seen as cheap as about $3 per slice all the way up to $10+ per slice.

Don't forget to factor in your venues cake cutting fee (if they have it, hopefully they don't!).

Cake cutting fee?! Oh boy!  I hope not...anything to make a buck...

Anyway, so far, it seems as though $6 a piece is avarage.  It seems much...doesn't it?

That does seem a little high to me, but I'm in a really cheap area.  I'm sure other areas are more expensive.  If you want to cut costs, try having a wedding cake that serves 200 or so (it will still be huge!) and sheet cakes to serve the other 200-300.  The sheet cakes can be kept in the back, and if it is the same flavor as the wedding cake no one will ever know.  You'll save big on decorating costs that way...
