I was planning on doing some cake pops in my dessert buffet, but then I saw some awesome carmel apples with all sorts of different toppings, I thought that might be better. Since my wedding is is on the first day of fall, I wanted to add some touches of fall. The toppings would be things like, cookies 'n cream, turtle, rocky road, carmel covered in chocolate, etc. I don't want to do both because of the time involved, so if you walked up to the dessert buffet, which would you rather see? Cake pops, or different topped carmel apples?

Sorry, but I have no idea what a cake pop is (I have never heard of them in Australia). Is a caramel apple like a toffee apple?? Toffee apples are hard to eat/ messy so I would go with whatever is easier to eat...

Both sound great! Are you having cake at your wedding? If you are, I would definitely do caramel apples. I'm not a huge fan of overly sweet stuff, though, so I would say caramel apples anyway :).

@Miss Pinup: a cake pop is a ball of cake on a stick and it's covered in a chocolate, where carmel apples are apples on a stick covered in carmel and traditionaly have nuts stuck to the carmel...VERY tasty.

I would love both, but I voted for cake pops only because they are not as messy and also some of the older people may not be able to eat the caramel apples :-)

Caramel apples sound like they fit the feel of your wedding better.  Cake pops sound awfully interesting though... I've never heard of them.  I think as a guest I might go for the cake rather than the apple.  I take way too long to eat apples!  Hopefully other people will weigh in.  I think I might be in the minority.

@jo.lee: We are having cake as well. According to my dad, there will be "a sh** ton of cake."

If you are already having cake then it might be good to go with the apples.  It will add something unique and the people who don't like to get messy or hate apples will still have your normal cake to eat.

I LOVE carmel apples but I'd vote cake pops.  Carmel apples are pretty messy to eat so it definitely isn't what I'd reach for when in nice clothes at a wedding.

I voted for the apples because it will give you a uniqueness factor and fit in with what you sound like you are going for. but I would have them in like a clear wrapping (like they do at a fair) so that people can enjoy them but maybe take them home to do so..i would  love them but not want to eat one at a wedding when I'm dressed up.

@Fall_In_Love22:  Do both, for those that have a sweet tooth great idea!  Many times at wedding you don't get the fun food rather grown up food.  The idea of caramel apples and cake pops are awesome. I just made myself a chocolate covered apple with walnuts and boy was it great and healthy. I think?Laughing

I'd prefer caramel apples. Would you also have plain caramel for the traditionalists?

I love caramel apples, but they are seriously hard to eat without making a mess! They might make nice favors if they were wrapped and meant to be taken home and not eaten in fancy dress?

I've never had to clean up any messes when eating them. Maybe it depends on how juicy certain apple varieties are? Red apples have alot more juice than green apples, and the green ones are the apples of choice when making caramel apples.

I like the idea of carmel apples but I'm afraid people may not eat them because of the hassle it is to eat them! I love them but I even pass on them because hate eating them. I would go with cake pops. In the end, it's all up to you!

100% cake pops!! I just got my braces off after two years and the thought of candy apples makes me shudder lol. They are just so challanging to eat. Cake pops on the other hand are super cute and totally customizable.. I made these the other day from a cake pop book  I found at michaels:

you could always do apple cake pops! lol?

@mcglalala: Those are adorable pictures! I want a cake pop immediately! Although, I have to say I do feel sorry for that little chick-a-dee with half of its head missing. It would be quite disturbing if the cake filling was red velvet...  moreso if it had raspberry jelly in the center.

    Mmmm cake pops!!!

Let me say for some reason I am truly unable to eat a caramel apple without making a mess and a fool of myself. They are delicious but sooo difficult for me to eat.

I would go with cake pops as a fun spin on the wedding cake. A lot less messy and still delicious.

Although I would rather eat a caramel apple... I chose cake pops because they're easier to eat. I don't think I'd want to get all messy at a wedding.

We're using cake pops with name/table# tags on them as our escort "cards."  There are so many fun decorations on them and while I enjoy the thought of caramel apples, I agree that the last thing I want to do when I'm all dressed up in a nice dress is chow down on a messy drippy apples in front of family and strangers and maybe even a cute date I brought.  Both excellent ideas though!  The apple might be more appropriate for a rustic/more casual/outdoorsy fall wedding if that's what you're doing.

@mcglalala: OMG! I think you win for combining the clever apple theme with the non-messy cake pops. :) Nicely done!

I think I would prefer the candy apples.  We looked at doing this as well, but the apples were well out of our price range, and I wasn't prepared to make 200 apples myself!   But if you were looking at combining the cake pop idea and apples (very clever @mcglalala:) here is a picutre and a link that might help you out: http://everythingsbaked.blogspot.com/2009/10/carmel-apple-cake-pops.html

Good Luck and let us know if you need any tast-testers!

I love both but I would say cake pops. They are cute and easy for anybody to eat. If you have any people with dentures will not be able to eat the caramel apple. Not to mention if you are have kids at your event the possibilities of caramel getting all over hair and face are endless.

Maybe you could do cut up apples instead of on a stick, so they are less messy and easier to eat?? I love the idea of the apples over the cake pops

I would definitely go with cake pops. My SIL made me some for my birthday, and it was like the most amazing thing I've ever tasted. Holy moly. She had mixed icing with the cake though, if that makes a difference. However, I really don't understand or enjoy caramel apples. I mean, the caramel is all sticky, it come off, you may get a bit of apple with it, but may not. . . and then you're left with a half-eaten apple and no more caramel.

It sounds like your having a whole dessert buffet.. So Im going to say carmel apples. They are delicious you can put different toppings on them, and they are refreshing...

I think cake pops are adorable, but I don't like eating them. I'm just not a fan of the texture of mashed up cake. Plus if you're already serving real cake, it's a bit superfluous.

I think candy apples are a great idea, but I would look for the kind that are coated in red hard candy, they'd be less messy than the kind covered in gooey caramel. Plus they'd be easier for guests to take home as favours if they don't want to eat them right away.

I would prefer to eat the caramel apples, but they are awfully messy. Maybe just stick with your traditional cake and then give away the caramel apples as favors?

What if you did Carmel Apples but had a couple apple cutters there so guests could slice them. Makes it way easier to eat. I'm a bigger fan of the apple idea.
