We used a tiny local bakery and got away with $250. I don't think this is the norm but I was thrilled. I wanted something very plain and truth be told, didn't care all that much about an elaborate cake since we decorated with fresh flowers and I had an awesome tree slice cakestand.
I think your quotes are about average. I think our is very high. We are only having a cake that will serve 42 people and it is $340.
i'm spending $470=$2.35 a slice which is by far the least expensive I have found.
We had 173 guests, ordered enough cake for 160, and it ended up around $450 total. We did a 3 tier cake and a sheet kitchen cake as extra. We had about 10 slices leftover too. I think it was around 3$ a slice if you do the math.
No cake for us! Not really cake people. We are doing a desert display. For 100 people it will be about $700. Chocolate dipped fruits, tarts, petite fours, berries with cream, yumm!
Ours is going to run about $700ish with a grooms cake. Ridiculous if you ask me.
Our cake was included in our package. It was 4 layers, for 115 people, and it had cannoli filling in the top and chocolate mousse and rasberry on the bottom. We kept the top layer. It was really really delicious
In my area, the cheapest you can get a cake is around $5.50 a slice! I'm making my cake (I'm qualified! lol so its no biggie for me) but if I were to get it made by a bakery it would cost me well over $500 for the wedding cake alone :)
I'm really out of touch with how cakes cost but jeesh that's a lot! I guess if its standard there's not much you can do. Our cake comes in the package at the venue which is good but then if we don't like the baker, we're stuck.

Just curious after meeting with a few cake bakers... about how much is everyone spending for their cake if you're having one? I know it depends on the size but the 3 bakers I met with for the same number of servings ranged from $500 - $1000. This is based on around 180 people - buttercream, NO fondant. Is this average?
